"Pleasantly surprised"
Pros: Lightweight, bright screen, sounds good, caller ID customizable with ringtone/pic, battery charges fast!
Cons: Motorola manual (as usual), must have SD card to put songs on for ringtones, camera button on outside of phone easy to hit accidentally, no way to silence ring with phone closed.
Summary: I got my Motorola v3r shortly before Christmas, so I've had it about 2 1/2 months. Here are my thoughts so far:
Music/ringtones sound pretty good; virtually no bass, though. I haven't used it with a headset because I don't have one that will work with it. Speaker volume is good. You can close the phone while the mp3 player is playing and still be able to listen to it.
The battery life is at least as good as my last phone (Motorola v557), even though many Razr reviews I read said that the battery life sucked. The battery can charge fully in about an hour or two.
I had trouble getting my photos to show up on my caller ID for a while, until someone on a message board told me to make sure that the picture quality was on the lowest setting. Then, presto! The pics showed up. The phone apparently defaults to the highest-quality setting. I was glad I found this out, because Motorola customer service's bright idea was to do a master reset. Scary words when you've only had the phone a week. Camera also has several color settings (black&white/blue tint, etc) that are kind of a neat option. Video works OK. Not great quality, but fun to play with.
Also, I had problems at first with putting songs/ringtones on the phone. The Motorola manual was, of course, no help. I found out that you MUST have a micro SD card to put music on the phone. The manual said nothing about this, and the phone doesn't come with the SD card. Just a heads up.
I don't text, so I can't comment on how that works.
The keypad is kind of a brushed metal, so it doesn't show fingerprints. The outside of the phone tends to trap oil from your skin due to tiny little grooves that give it its cool look.
My two main complaints are: 1. I haven't found a way to silence the ringer with the phone closed. On other models, you could hit one of the buttons on the outside of the clamshell without opening the phone; handy at work and things. There may be a way to do it and I just haven't figured it out yet, but I've tried all the buttons. I think the phone has to be opened to silence the ring of an incoming call. 2. The camera button on the outside of the phone is very easy to hit accidently. And you have to then open the phone to then turn it off. No major difficulties, just small annoyances. I paid about $50 for the phone with my upgrade, so not much to complain about at that price.
Bottom line, I like the phone much more than I thought I would.
