"Z6m is good, but defective. Motorola says "too bad."" on by flayton6

Cons: Z6m faceplate defect is not handled by Motorola.
Summary: I shopped for the perfect phone until I found the z6m. I had to wait until Oct 14 for it to become available. I was so excited to have it. Then, 2 weeks into my z6m experience, I was talking on it and the faceplate popped off and fell against my face. I figured perhaps it would just pop back on, but no luck. That was on Oct 28.
On advice from Motorola (my wireless retailer couldn’t help me with this one…?) I sent the phone in for repair. $8 more for UPS. I got it back, unrepaired after a few days, with a checkmark next to the line “Physical/Liquid damage”. So I called again and explained that I had babied the phone and it had never been exposed to liquid or physical damage. The faceplate simply popped off by itself. They suggested I send the phone in for re-evaluation with a letter explaining everything I had been telling the various Motorolaids.
So I did that. I got it back on Saturday with the same results. A check next to “Physical / Liquid Damage” and an unrepaired phone. So I called again and got the case escalated.
(NOTE: For every “call” that I mention, it was actually between 2 and 15 calls due to the “status system being updated” for over a week, or “someone will call me back”. I’m leaving that out as I’m just plain worn out from this experience.)
I just got off the phone with Randa S. from Motorola Escalation department. She’s a supervisor there. She and I talked for about 30 minutes and all she could say is that she has no authority to replace my phone or return my money, since it’s been noted as Physical damage. She tried to be nice and helpful, but mostly she was just ineffective.
So, it looks like I’m out $200 and now I hate Motorola because I’m certain that they’re cheating their customers and selling defective products that they have no intention of replacing or fixing.

Cons: defective after two weeks of gentle use
Summary: This was the first unlocked phone that I purchased directly from the Motorola website. After two weeks of gentle use (never dropped the phone or spilled anything on it), the screen display gave out. After 6 phone calls to Motorola's customer service, I'm supposed to be able to refund the phone but I'll wait and update you on how they handle their customer service issues on lemons they dish out. No matter how 'nice' the phone may seem, it's only good if it actually works. After 15 years of cell phone use, this is the only phone I've purchased that's been defective.

Pros: Decent MP3 Player
Cons: Ringtones must be bought separately from Alltel or Realtone Jukebox even if you bought the song legally from a pay service like Napster
Summary: With Alltel, they really dropped the ball with this stupid DRM Crap. If you bluetooth a ringtone from any other phone or save one from your computer, even if it's public domain or a song you bought from a pay service like Napster, it is impossible to set it as a ringtone. I can buy a full MP3 of a song for $.99 from Napster but Alltel wants $2.99 for a 20 second or less snippet of the same song to use as my ringtone. How ridiculous is that? I bought the dang songs. I'm allowed to use them for any purpose so long as I don't share it with a friend. Alltel=The Biggest Crooks of all Time!

Pros: The concept and look is nice, but as a phone is inefficient.
Cons: Screen freezes and drops calls, text feature is horrible. You have to turn off/on phone each text msg. It happend both on mine and my daughter's phone which were purchased in Oct.
Summary: The product is very poor. I sent my daughter's phone in and am waiting to see what happens. I'll let you know with a follow up.

Pros: Stylish, excellent features, excellent battery life
Cons: Needs to be rebooted daily, reception not as good
Summary: I upgraded from a LG UX5000 because the battery life on the LG was poor. The battery life on this ROKR is great. The only bad thing about it was that once you get a notification or two that the battery is low, it will just die. With the LG, I'd usually have another 5 minutes of talk time before dropping.
My reception was slightly better with the LG. I drive through a weak spot in US Cellular's network every day, but I usually don't drop a call there with the LG. The ROKR dropped the call there the first time.
I've never had a slider phone before, so I was fascinated by that feature for the first week I owned the phone...but I had to buy some wipes for the fingerprints that constantly show up on the screen. If you've never used a slider before, you really don't have to open the phone to use it. In fact, I rarely open the phone at all. It's only necessary when I need to use the number pad (otherwise I just scroll through the contacts).
After a few days I started having a few problems with the phone. Sometimes the backlight would not go out, draining the battery. Sometimes the phone would just shut off for no reason. I took the phone to a US Cellular store, and the tech told me to try rebooting the phone more often. I don't have many problems now as long as I shut the phone off once a day. This is annoying, but honestly, I pretty much have to do the same with my computer. I hope that this problem can be fixed with a firmware update. I did have to reboot my LG phones once in a while, but it was more like once or twice a month.
I love the fact that I can use MP3's for ringtones. US Cellular used to block this feature on their phones, but I found a workaround with the LG. This phone and other Motorolas are very easy to use this feature. I purchased a bluetooth adapter, and it worked great to transfer the MP3's. I was also able to transfer MP3's via the bluetooth to the MicroSD card that came with the phone.
The stereo headset that comes with the phone sounds good for music and also works as a hands-free device. I did have a problem with this, where the volume would adjust automatically. I would sometimes not hear the first word of every sentence. I did purchase a bluetooth headset, which worked great with the phone.
The speakerphone works well and even music sounds surprisingly good coming out of the speaker.
No flash with the camera...but seriously, do those things ever work?
Overall, I love the phone but I hate its little bugs and having to reboot it once or twice a day. If Motorola were to release a fix for that, I would probably give the phone a 9.Updated
I contacted Motorola regarding the glitches I was having with my phone. They said that it wasn't normal and I should try a master reset. I did, and it didn't help. I ended up returning the phone for a replacement. The new phone had no problems at all.
I added a Kingston 2GB MicroSD card. It didn't work right away because the phone wouldn't format it. The manual specifically says that it can only guarantee a 2GB card if it were a SanDisk card. I formatted the Kingston card in my wife's KRZR, and then put it back into the ROKR, and it worked fine after that.
