"Very Functional Phone, but...." on by mspc
Pros: Very good reception, nice design and light weight
Cons: Documentation, limited Voice Dial capability, Camera, and button size
Summary: I have only had this phone for about three weeks, but have decided that it is a good functional, but basic, phone for my needs. This phone replaced a Motorola T720 clam shell design. Over the years I learned to hate the T720 for a variety of reasons, mostly the top closing too easily when trying to operate it with one hand and cutting off the call. It also had some reception problems and a poor ear piece. I considered the L7, but the features it had beyond those of the L6 were not of consequence to me, so I couldn't justify the $100+ difference just to get black.
I am a pretty basic cell phone user, my requirements were, better reception than with the T720, no clam shell, voice dial capability and a good speaker phone.
The L6 has much better reception and overall is very functional than my old phone so that was addressed
As a candy bar design it met the second criteria. It is slim and light weight. I find it easy to handle, although it is a susceptible to the screen getting dirty. I am a bit concerned about the facia being damaged easily, but so far it doesn't show much damage.
Before I bought it I asked how many voice dial names you could set up, the salesman said "about 30-35, but don't quote me on that". There is nothing in the documentation about it, but as it turns out it will support a grand total of 5, yes 5, phone stored (you can't do any on the SIM) voice dial numbers. After you set up five, you don't get a message telling you anything about voice dial being full, you just don't get the menu option on any other stored numbers to set up voice dialing. Rather Cheesy, but the voice dial does work well.
The buttons are a bit small, and I don't have big fingers and the layout is not obvious at times. The turn-on and turn-off buttons are too much alike, but that is just me. It still requires two hands to dial (which is what I wanted Voice Dial to avoid).
The camera and screen are pretty marginal for picture use, but that is not a big priority with me.
The speaker phone is pretty decent. I have used it and found that for the most part the speaker does fine and the other party doesn't have problems understanding me. I haven't used it much in the car as I try to avoid that distraction so I don't know how well the speaker phone deals with a noisy enviornment. The voice dial and speaker phone features were two that I wanted for that purpose.
The documentation that accompanies the phone is pretty difficult to follow at time. It doesn't do a very good job of taking the user step by step through set up of some features, such as voice dial. It certainly doesn't tell you about any such limitations. It took my daughter to figure out the voice dial setup for me.
Since I have a thirty day return capability, I could return it if I wanted, but overall I am satisfied enough to keep it. Not thrilled, but the only real annoyance is the limitation of the number of names for voice dialing. I decided 5 was going to have to be enough, but there should be some documentation about that limitation. As I have looked at the various reviews of this phone on the net, no one mentions this either which I find odd. -
"Wel Designed Phone" on by TekSavvy
Pros: Form Factor, Build Quality, USB charger
Cons: Lack of Accessories(so far) Can't use SIM Address Book and Phone Address Book Separately
Summary: I got this phone yesterday, unlocked and it was modded to quad band prior to my purchase. It is a great phone, the form factor is amazing. It has a very solid feel to it but it's not heavy. You charge using the mini-USB to A/C adapter and you can also charge through a computer, much like an iPod. I don't like flip phones and I have only used Nokia phones in the past. I am very happy with this purchase.
On the flip side, my Nokia's allowed me to copy all of the contacts from the SIM to the phone and I could choose which address book I wanted to default to. If you have contacts on the SIM and on the phone, they both appear at all times. It's quite frustrating. I like using the SIM as a backup of my contacts. As soon as this phone hits the mainstream, I will hopefully see many more accessories... -
"Good Phone With A Few Downsides" on by graceKarma
Pros: Good sound quaility, quick processing browser, overall easy menus
Cons: Internal memory leaves much to be desired, sluggish Bluetooth that sometimes does not work well.
Summary: I have the pink L6. I bought it in Scotland last week after debating for weeks about which phone to buy. I am used to a QWERTY phone but after looking at the L6, opted to go with it. The keys are easy to use even with being very flat. The menus are easy to navigate but some functions may be tricky to find. The camera seems average but I have not found to date a phone camera that has excellent quality comparable to stand alone cameras. The call quality is clear and I don't experience static or echoing as I have on other phones. I was not a fan of the iTap predictive text and turned that off. The memory capacity of this phone is a real shortcoming. I am already near full and have to start getting rid of some items. A real plus is that this phone works very easily with my Nokia PC Suite software. From an aesthetic point of view, it's a fantastic phone. It's very thin but not as light as you would think. The screen is good with a bit of grain to images, but I have not seen better on other phones. Sounds (music and ringtones) are what you typically see on phones - a bit tin sounding, but with the limited memory, you could not really use this as an mp3 player. However, the recording quality is quite good.
I bought this with an Orange pay as you go SIM card in it and replaced it with my Cingular SIM when I came home. I have had no problems with it. The only tricky part was configuring the browser for my plan's service. Just a few minutes on Google took care of that.
I would recommend the phone but only if you can handle the somewhat temperamental Bluetooth and limited memory. Otherwise, compared to other phones out there, it's a winner. -
"Major Disappointment" on by reeltime
Pros: Style Style Style
Cons: Sound and Screen.. both horrible
Summary: I bought this one on eBay, I love a cool phone. The style was great, and I really like the design. Unfortunately, you have to turn it on and use it at some point. Here's where it falls apart. The screen is exremely LOW rez. The microphone hole is in a poor location and everyone who talks with me says they have a hard time hearing me on that phone.

"I like this phone" on by bball11489
Pros: design, bluetooth capable, computer based charge
Cons: contact list
Summary: It doesnt allow for multiple numbers under a single contact, but it does, contrary to previous comments, include little images for home and cell, etc, you just have to play around a bit to find it. Overall, I got it for a good price, and I am satisfied with the phone.
