"Good Looks. Poor Quality"
Pros: Looks cool, Small size for a Nextel, Speakerphone
Cons: Drops calls, Poor sound quality for ring tones, Poor image quality from camera
Summary: I waited for Nextel to come out with a phone that was small enough and had a few features I liked. I purchased this phone for $300 with a 1 year service agreement. The WORST thing about this phone is the reception. You can be standing still and have full strength one moment and then drop to no service. I miss a full 50% of my calls even when I am at full signal strength. 50% of the calls I miss dont even go to Voice mail. When I do get voice mail, it sometimes takes an hour or more to notify me. I thought it might be the reception in my area but my roommate has an older Nextel and he has NO problems.
I very rarely have any problems with the Direct Connect. That works flawless. I use DC for 90% of my calls so that is the only reason I havent thrown this phone againstthe wall. If you are buying this phone because it has a camera phone, dont. The quality is sub-par at best.
I purchased the data cable so that I could put my own ringtones and media on the phone. I think I have been sucessfull 2 out of the 50 times I tried. The phone rejects almost every type of media sent to it, and Yes, I know what I am doing.

Ive heard that its possible to switch the sim outta my i830 to a used i860. But i also heard after a month it stops working? Can someone clue me in with FACTS before i make a crucial mistake?? PLEEZ HELP I REALLY NEED THIS IMMEDIATELY!

Double check with Nextel, when I got my i860 I just switched the SIM chip, and I experienced the same problems. After a call to tech support they stated that I had to use the SIM that came with the phone. So after I changed the SIM back and the SN and IMEI number were correct, I did not have any more issues.
The only issue I have now is that the screen keeps going out on me. If it's not the outside display its the inside display.
But otherwise, it's a great phone.
