    "GREAT basic phone with goodies!"

by MaryFred on August 23, 2006

    Pros: Features, battery life, personalization

    Cons: Ringer volume

Summary: I started with the Motorola v188 and sent it back within a few days. Instead of choosing a camera phone that plays music and puts the laundry away, I chose another basic phone - that's all I want or need.

I am VERY pleased with the Motorola v195! Calls are crystal clear and I can pick up a good signal even in some strange buildings. I wanted a quad-band to use overseas and this one fits the bill.

Lots of options to personalize: screen saver, wallpaper, short keys, voice dialer, ringers. Once you get the hang of the Motorola scheme of things, it's easy to change things around. I also like the phone book options - can list several phone numbers for each person and mark entries for text message groups.

This may be a "basic" phone, but it has an event calendar, alarm clock, speaker phone, and calculator. And ... Bluetooth!!! In other words, the features are outstanding and the battery holds power for a long, long time.

So far, there's only one thing I really don't like and that's the ringer volume. Sorry, but I want something that RINGS, something I can hear from across the room or when the phone is in my purse. Motorola ... can you crank up the volume?

If you want a basic, very affordable phone with great features, the Motorola v195 is it!

I forgot this when I first wrote my review: the inputs for charging jack, etc. at the bottom of the phone are covered with a rubber piece that is a real pain to move. I know it's there for protection, but I have my Moto v195 in a case and the rubber plug takes some maneuvering. But, hey ... small inconvenience considering the overall product.

I like this phone! After six months: no problems whatsoever! I used it during my overseas travel in October and the calls back to the U.S. were crystal clear. I'm still amazed at the battery life ... outstanding!

So ... if you want a basic phone that has some very nice features, I still recommend this one.

It was very nice of you to comeback and update it after every few months.
