"v400 has a known speaker problem, do not buy"

    by yhjiang83 on October 1, 2005

    Pros: great camera

Cons: poor speaker, fails very early

Summary: i brought this phone, after about 3 or 4 months of use, the phone's speaker started to go bad and eventually stops working completely, this has been a known problem among v400 users. without the loud speaker or your headset, it's impossible to hear what people are saying to you.

I know this is not an isolated problem because my son-in-law and I bought this model at the same time. Both phones are hard to hear, unless you use the built-in speaker.

I had the exact same problem with both my V400 phones. After about 2 months, the speaker will drop to a very, very low volume in the middle of a call. I had to always hang up and call the person again. This phone is a piece of junk.

As already noted, this phone has a known issue with a speaker problem. My husband and I both bought the v400 model a little more than 1 year ago. About three months ago, my husband's ear speaker (don't know what to technically call it, but the speaker within the phone that allows you to listen to conversations) started to go out. He could barely hear anything when talking on the phone. Now it is completely unfunctional, and he can only hear through the phone if it is on speakerphone.

We took into our Cingular store (our service provider) and they knew right away what we were talking about. In fact, the salesman said that this is the model that they give to all Cingular employees, and that he and a few other employees in his store had this problem.

Unfortunately, since we purchased the phone over a year ago, and we did not buy the extra insurance on the phone, we'll have to pay out of pocket for a new phone. Hopefully this will not happen to my phone, as well! Therefore, I would NOT recommend this model NOR Cingular service, as both are a rip-off.
