"Not just a flip; it's a Motorola! And it's good."
Pros: It's a Moto, Good display, Great reception, Durable, Good menu options, good sound, Quad band
Cons: Battery life is short, Lack of details in phonebook, Bulky
Summary: I have been sold on Motorola, and for good reason. The v551 is another good product from the microprocessing giant. The phone is a bit bulky but thats due to the stuffing inside. Big screen graphics better than average sound and lots of software for browsing wich will eat the battery alive; however this little phone is a monster. The v551 offers really quite a bit of personalization for every person. It comes pack with browsing options for the person that lives online. The large screen is sharp and vivid and has yet to fade on me. The sound quality is over all good. I have no problems hearing the ringer over my car stereo or in my briefcase. The volume could be little higher though when trying to listen in a heavy crowd but over all I have no problems with sound quality. The menus take some time to get around if you are not familiar with a Motorola phone, but it will get easier with time and usage. The v551 also sports a camera that is for little more than snapping a picture for that suprise moment in life. Cell phone cameras' are not profesional equipment so don't expect award winning photos.
Now about the reception. I have read many other reviews about bad reception and all I can think is that it is a bad apple. I have and have had the best signal with Motorola phones. I just got rid of a Samsung e317 because of bad call dropping, missed calls, low ring volume and low signal quality. With my v551 I have not missed any calls and I can hear the other person just fine. I can use this phone in places that my former Samsung and a Nokia would shake and shutter in. I have had a v60i in the past and it was bullet proof; unfortunately a change in carrier ment a change in phone. And like my old Moto this v551 version has proven to follow in it's foot steps.
