"Appearances can be deceptive"
Pros: Excellent colorful screen; cool-looking LEDs on the outside
Cons: Slow UI, serious connection issues, phone book bug
Summary: I have had the Motorola V600 since August 2004. I bought the phone because: 1) It is a quadband world phone 2) It had bluetooth and USB connectivity 3) It had a wonderful display 4) Camera
The Camera and display are definitely very good. I do not dispute that. However, there are NUMEROUS problems with the V600 that have totally shaken my faith in Motorola.
1) The UI is just ridiculously slow. There have been several times when I have hit a menu button only to realize that there was a lag between what I saw and what was actually supposed to be there. In other words, I see something that says "A", select that, and a second later, "B" appears where "A" was and my input was sent to "B" instead of "A". This is a serious problem and I have accidentally hung up on people (classic example: call waiting ignore), conferenced people in when I thought I was hitting speakerphone, etc.
2) Connection issues: The number of bars that I have goes down to zero, and I cannot hang up. It looks like the phone is busy searching for an available network, and simply ignores my hang up button press. There have SEVERAL times when I have had to shut down the phone in order to make it hang up.
3) Phone book bug: One of the reasons I bought the V600 was to sync my phone book periodically with my computer and not lose my contacts in case I lost the phone. Well. Guess what. One fine day, I look at my phone and there are weird characters (^J, ^@, etc.) in the phone book. I lost about 8 contacts and had to figure out who they were by looking at my computer. I believe this was triggered by my phone book getting filled up. I checked the memory on the phone it said that there was about 4 MB free. I suspect that there was a limit on the *number* of entries in the phonebook. Either way, this was a simple condition that should have been checked for in the QA/testing mode.
Overall, I am totally disappointed with Motorola and will NEVER EVER buy a Motorola cell phone again. I owned a Motorola Talkabout at one point in time and it was also a total piece of junk.
It is ironical that Six Sigma was invented by Motorola, and yet Motorola products have way too many problems. I am definitely moving to some other brand once my contract ends.
I would strongly recommend people NOT to buy this phone.
