"Great phone - Much improved with new firmware" on by broch

Pros: Great audio quality; Great color screen; Analog.

Cons: Lack of Bluetooth support for file transfers.

Summary: This is a great phone that received middling reviews early on because of a poor implementation of the handset by Verizon. The good news is that the new firmware has solved many issues including: improved speaker volume, improved camera function (outdoor pictures are good), improved bluetooth (headset, car and modem use only- still no bluetooth file transfer), and improved PC/MAC compatibility. The camera takes great outdoor shots that are 4x6 worthy. This device is a phone first and it does that function really well. The rest of the features on this phone are nice toys but will not replace a good digital camera or movie camera. The organizer on this phone has entries for appointments and you can set alarms but if you are looking for a PDA then buy a Treo. The phone will play audio (MP3) and video clips if you are a tech oriented person and set things up the right way. This is a fun bonus but to take advantage you mush pick up an inexpensive trans-flash (not miniSD) card.

The new software version is 8700_01.40.OR. If you are a Verizon customer, they will load it on your phone for you; just take it to one of the Verizon Wireless Stores. To check for the current version in your phone:<br><br>1. Press the menu key.<br>2. Scroll to &#38; select Phone Info, Press OK<br>3. Scroll down to and select "Other information", Press OK.<br>4. Scroll down and select S/W version, Press OK.<br><br> For this same info, you can also go to the Verizon Wireless link below, and look at #2 under Profiles.<br><br>http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/dispatcher?action=DISPLAY&#38;item=_FAQ_TOPIC&#38;topicID=252#1665<br><br>Hope this was what you needed.

How do we go about finding this firmware upgrade for the v710? I can't find reference to it on either Verizon Wireless' website or Motorola's. Thanks,

Hi, Broch, when you mentioned the updated firmware, is it something that needs downloading or comes with a new phone. I just purchased one and it is working fine, however, when you mentioned "updated firmware" I want to make sure that I am up to speed. Thanks in advance..
