"Avoid this Phone!"
Pros: Nice colors, easy to use, easy to set up
Cons: Poor sound quality, fingerprints, keys stick, won't ring with 5 full bars or service
Summary: I am very disappointed in the W490 Mandarin. I was expecting great things from this phone as I've never had problems with Motorola before. I knew the problems weren't with T-Mobile service as that has always been excellent. First of all, the phone was easy to set up, but the call quality was horrendous. It sounded like people were in a tin can shouting at me. I would have to lower the volume to level 2 so I could just listen to a conversation that wouldn't hurt my ears. With the volume so low, it was then difficult to understand people. The next problem came with keys sticking - especially the 4 and 6 keys. After using the phone for 2 weeks, it started dropping phone calls after 20 minutes of conversation. Not only that, but with 5 full bars of service, the phone often times would not ring in my home or at my place of business which was never a problem with the Razr. People were constantly complaining that they could not get in touch with me. TMobile assured me that I got a bad phone and replaced it for me free of charge at the 21 day mark. The new replacement is doing the very same thing EXCEPT without the "tin can" issue. The quality of the conversations sounded better, but as time passed, it was also going in the "tin can" clarity. The same issues were present with the phone dropping calls after the 20 minute mark, keys sticking and not ringing when it should be. Clearly, Motorola needs to go back to the drawing board on this phone or scrap it all together. I've now replaced the 2nd Motorola replacement with a Blackberry as call clarity is very important to me. Not to mention, having it ring it also important to me! I do NOT recommend buying this phone. It is a huge disappointment from a company that has produced such great quality products.
