"NEC 525 is Garbage" on by NewJerseyJohn
Pros: Alarm Clock Works Well
Cons: Phone Is Useless - Reboots constantly
Summary: Never knew about reboots or resets until I saw an article in the newspaper talking about how little recourse consumers have toward some cell phone manufacturers. I originally purchased four NEC 525 for my family circa Oct. 2003. All have had problems with resets; returned a couple. Originally thought it was AT&T wireless connectivity, but now believe it's the phone since other friends with Motorola, etc. and are on AT&T Wireless (now Cingular) don't have the same problems. My own phone, virtually every single time I now turn it on and then initiate a call, will freeze up on me. Though signal still shows connection, have to push the "off" button for about 15 seconds to get it to reboot, then wait for it to cycle up, then make the call again. NEC should have had a class action suit against the sale of this product. All the other stuff is a nuisance too: can't hear it ring, can't turn the volume up enough to hear when there is any noise around, etc. Will never, ever buy a NEC product of any sort again. Waiting about 8 more months to get new phones under a new 2-year contract.

"Good...at first" on
Pros: Excellent LCD and easy-to-use camera. Good, solid weight, convenient front-side button; easy and useful text-message capability (when phone fails to crash).
Cons: No hardcopy manual. Battery meter is unreliable. Ringer tends to be easy to miss in noisy settings. After about six months, phone began to crash and reboot frequently and apparently at random; often in the middle of calls, at other times while idling, so

"was good for its time" on by ddhboy
Pros: camera support, ease of use, IR port, connectivity to PCs
Cons: no speaker phone capabilities, very little 3rd party support, very bulky
Summary: This phone was good for its time, but now it is antiquidated and no longer available for sale. it would have been the best phone of its time if it only had a speaker phone and was able to take videos. NEC messed up there and has not been able to release a new phone to the american public, however I will wait for the day that they do decide to come back state side.

"Ok, but will not buy another NEC ever again" on by giselaprz
Pros: Good memory for pics/txt msgs, alarm, outer LCD looks cool, each phone entry can have its own picture ID, LED light and melody
Cons: Horrible pictures when dark, no picture messaging, ring volume buttons stopped working too soon, too bulky, charger will fail to connect to phone at times
Summary: I had this phone reported as lost to AT&T when it froze and would not start at all after 8 months of usage!!! (I preferred to get a replacement than having to ship it to NEC for them to fix). Not worth all the money I paid, I dislike the camera, bad resolution and it needs A LOT of light to take decent pictures. I've been with it for over a year and can't wait to get rid of it.
