"Very Good No Frills Phone. Good value." on by Phil521

Pros: Excellent reception, and sound quality. Nice price.

Cons: Ringer and wallpaper choices. Screensaver mode too dim and not visible in low light.

Summary: We got this phone for my 80 year old mother in law who has never used a cell phone before, but I used in for a few days and I loved it. It's lightweight, compact and has excellent reception for a phone with a built in antenna. I used it successsfully in some lower floor indoor locations where even my Motoroa struggles a bit.

I like the fact that after the backlight dims, the display never shuts off completely and is still readable (but barely) in room light or sunlight, which is a plus. But unlike other phones, this "screensaver" mode cannot be seen at all in the dark. I noticed that while charging with the phone off, the charging indicator bar is also very hard to see.

Sound quality and volume are very good at both ends of the call.

The built in flashlight is a neat gimmick, but the flashlight lens on the top edge of the phone doubles as the on off switch for the phone, so that takes some getting used to since I kept trying to use the end key for that purpose.

The wallpaper choices are pretty bland for those who need them. I tried to email a photo to the phone to use as wallpaper as I can with my Motorola, but it does not work. As for the ringer choices, I would be embarrassed to use most of them.

The phone is all plastic and I would be concerned about dropping it onto a hard floor, but of course I didn't test that. Some people might think that this makes the phone feel cheap. But for $29 (from Verizon) I'm satisfied.

I didn't try the text message function, but it looks straight forward. The phone includes 3 games which could be useful if you were stuck at an airport for a while.

Overall it is a perfect phone for someone who wants quality without the frills.

"Best basic cell phone I have used" on by bw9101

Pros: Battery, reception, sound quality, style

Cons: hmmm, text messaging access too tedious

Summary: I am pretty obsessive compulsive on my cell phones. It is all I use for communications. I work in the health care industry and we have a policy making camera phones taboo. My office is in the basement of the hospital making reception spotty at best. I have had the Moto 815e pre-anti-camera policy and it was pretty good at reception in a hospital basement. I am not a big fan of too many gadgets and my wife wanted to try the Moto for Bluetooth stuff. Policy then changed and I tried a LG 3300. Nice phone, but I have never had good luck with LG phones in the reception department - not like Moto or Nokia. After accidentally stomping on the LG, I researched and read the reviews for the Nokia 2128i. I ordered one.

I have had this phone for about a week and if there any changes to this review I will update my review. I can not only text frm my office, but can actually call out and receive calls! Better than the Moto! So, reception is incredible! Another bonus over the Motos is Nokia's chargers plug in in a safer way (my way of thinking) than Moto as the Moto chargers have pulled the guts out on a previous Moto phone. Nokia is much better in this area than virtually anyone. But I don't have to plug in my phone but every two or three days - vs every night for the other phones!

Sound quality is really great too. Every bit as great as the Moto and better than eny of the LGs I have owned (6100, 3200, 5200, 3300).

There are really good wallpapers and ringers for a simpleton like me. The camera thing would be nice, but I have not missed it AT ALL! Hate to say it, but I do have a good digital camera and I never saw a good photo come from a cell phone yet!

The little flashlight is really a neat little thing to have. I have used it from time to time to move around the house at night - and to dazzle my kids!

I do not think anything is a perfect 10 other than my bride of 17 years, so I
had to really dig to find a problem with this Nokia phone. Here it is...when accessing the screens to send a text message - and I do alot of that - you have to go thru what seems like a dozen different screens to add a recipient and then add text and then to send.
Cumbersome. But that is seriously the only thing I can fault this phone on!

The only other problem is that I love this phone so much that I must focus my obsessive compulsive traits on something else!

If you are interested in a great phone, this is a great one. It is not complicated with cameras and music etc. It is a cell phone and it does it better for me than any other cell phone I have ever had!

    Seriously give it strong look.

"Ya know that tiny pocket that's inside of your right-side jeans pocket? This phone will fit inside!" on by KauaiRobert

Pros: Tiny and light. A+ for reception and clarity!

Cons: Sometimes it shuts down for no reason. Maybe only mine does that though. (It's over 2 yrs old)

Summary: No B.S. with this phone. No dropped calls. Loud & clear as a bell. Light as a feather and so compact you forget it's in your pocket. It's also tough as nails. I've dropped it 5 or 6 times and it keeps going strong!

I've had it for over two years and sometimes it will shut down for no reason, although it's never done that while I was actually talking on it. Sometimes I'll set it down on the table and when I pick it up again, it'll just be off. I haven't yet figured out why this happens but since it doesn't happen very often, it's not that bad.

I live on the island of Kauai and in a VERY rural area where neither my wife or daughter's cell phones will get a signal most times. This little Nokia ALWAYS gets a signal. And that's with an INTERNAL antenna!!!

If you don't need cameras and music and ringtones and all of that other BS they try to sell to us today and just want a great reliable cell phone you can count on--this is the phone for you!!!

"Use one of these myself for a backup phone" on by narn3049

    Pros: READ SUMMARY

    Cons: READ SUMMARY

Summary: I got this phone in 2006, and absolutely love it. I am the original owner, and after upgrading to a newer unit, I decided that i would keep it as a backup. It works perfectly after 5 years of heavy use, texting and even water damage, functions still fine. The speaker may be a little raspy, but I use speakerphone a lot anyway. And also, the keys are a bit yellowed from wear and dirt, but that's fine as well as long as it still works. One of the small cons I had with this phone, is it will notify you of a message, but say you are playing a game or something, you have to exit the app, go into messages, go into inbox. Sort of a pain if you aren't on the main screen at the time you get a text. but after 5-6 years of messing with it that's all I could find.
