"It WORKS! and can be fun"
Pros: Clarity, battery life, volumn control, it's tough
Cons: Style is lacking, and there is no camera
Summary: I really shopped this site when I was deciding whether to go with a fun flip phone or a camera phone, and thought I should come back after I've had a while with the phone. One of the things I really appreciated was hearing the problems other people had - because I was really tempted by the bells and whistles. But, I've become pretty dependant on my cell phone: I need for it to work as a phone. So, I've had this Nokia for 5 months now, and it has pleasantly surprised me. I had an old Nokia for 3-4 years, and it was still working, but... I could only talk for an hour before I got a beep and then lost the signal, and sometimes had a bit of a crackle in certain areas. But this model 6010 - or its battery - has never failed to come in clear. I can talk for hours even if the phone hasn't been charged lately. Its light-up feature is nice, although I could wish it would stay lit a little longer if I'm in low light. (I read this elsewhere, and now I understand.) I've played with ring tones - they're kind of fun, and none are 'art' but there are a bunch that come with the phone, and more available from T-Mobile, which is a trusted source. A lot of them are free. Some cost $1 - there are over a hundred to choose from if you can afford a buck. Wallpapers were a game with me for a while - the really pretty ones interfere with being able to read the screen, so I settled on a rainbow called 'spectrum'. The games are ok. Pretty good for a phone, actually.
This phone is tough. I have dribbled water on it, dropped it. I routinely throw the poor thing in my purse and it gets banged around a lot. Sometimes, it gets bonked so that the automatic lock feature gets turned off and it will beep at me as a pen tries to dial 11111 or something - but my old phone would autodial my friends from my purse, and I got laughed at for that. For some reason I can hear when this phone is getting poked - and since it automatically locks after 30 minutes of non-use, my phone doesn't make calls without my knowledge any more.
I appreciate the voice mail - I guess most cell users are so used to it that they don't mention it. I count on it for getting a response from my daughter who has the same type of phone. And when I am slow in answering because the phone is in the next room, it is really easy to return a call - just 2 clicks. I like the call-waiting and call return features. I haven't tried 3-way calling, yet. I also haven't spent the time (or read the manual) to make the voice-activated dialing work. I really don't believe in calling and driving at the same time, so that would just be a toy for me. I haven't used the speaker phone feature either. I do appreciate dialing by name instead of number. Guess you can tell I am a lazy cell phone user - If I need to figure it out, it's not worth the trouble. So those things I DO use are really intuitive and obvious on this phone.
