"Very pleased"
Pros: Big keys, good reception
Cons: No bluetooth, exposed antenna
Summary: After upgrading from a Nokia 8260, I'm very pleased with the 6101. It's one of the few Nokia flip-phones available through a Canadian carrier.
The basic design is very good. The keys are nicely sized and the phone fits very nicely in hand. It's a little chunkier than some Samsung phones, but the difference isn't really that big. The construction seems pretty solid and the display is very good. The speakerphone works fine and I'm very satisfied with the reception quality.
I'm not a heavy user of my cell phone, so I'm not the best judge of battery life. I've managed about 5-7 days on standby, with light to moderate usage.
My only quibbles are minor. The exposed antenna slightly mars the clean design of the phone, and bluetooth functionality would be nice (but not necessary for me). Oh, and the integrated camera is a bit of a gimmick (but that's my opinion of all camera phones). There's very little memory to store photos.
Overall, Nokia has a very solid phone here and I'm sure the vast majority of people would be very satisfied with it. But those looking for Bluetooth and more memory for the camera should look elsewhere.Updated
I've had the phone for two months now. I'm still satisfied with the phone. The sound quality is miles ahead of my older Nokia phone (a 4 year old 8260). This fact alone makes a big difference for me.
The phone seems to be holding up rather well. I've dropped it a few times on pavement, and it survived them all. Besides a few scratches on the screen, it's in pretty good shape. The hinge seems fairly robust, but we'll see how it holds up after a few years.
There are a couple of irritations, though. There is a slight delay when using the phone menus. After every button press, there's a half-second delay which makes the phone seem sluggish. It hasn't hindered me, but I've heard complaints from other users.
I've also had problems syncing my phone with Microsoft outlook. I'm using a 3rd party CA-42 sync cable, but I've had major problems trying to get a reliable connection between the computer and the phone. The phone always shows the message 'Enhancement not supported'. I guess Nokia is locking out 3rd party accessories, which is extremely annoying.
But all-in-all, the Nokia 6101 works great as a *phone*. Those looking for other features, such as a camera, bluetooth or MP3 player, should look at other phones instead.

I concur with your points. I've had my 6101 for about six months, and your observations are on the mark. I gave it a rating of 7, but would not quarrel with a rating of 8. As someone who just wants a reliable, functional PHONE (not a game playing device or MP3 player) I'm quite happy with the 6101.

I had been using this phone for almost a year when a crack appeared in the plastic body near the hinge. Soon the hinge was loose and the phone would not stay open or closed anymore. Annoying.
I believe the cheap construction of the phone did not sustain the repeated force applied when opening/closing the phone.
I am quite disappointed by this lousy quality, especially since the Nokia dealer refused to have it repaired under waranty as he claimed I had dropped the phone ... -
I'm currently investigating the Nokia 6103 which is essentially the 6101 with all the shortcomings you mentioned corrected.
It has a 4x camera, bluetooth, 4mb of memory (sadly cannot be upgraded).
In fact the only factor I can find to disuade me from buying a 6103 is that it looks exactly like my mums 6101.
Having matching phones would be wierd.
