"Excellent, rating at 9 because 10 would require perfection"
Pros: Speaker volume control, bright screen
Cons: Menu structure a little harder to use over Motorola; otherwise, none.
Summary: My wife and I both got 6102i phones through Cingular to replace our Motorola phones within two months of each other. I had a Motorola V551 and she had a V557,and they both experienced the classic dying speaker failure. Our only Nokias before this came in the mid-90s, and they were the candy bar style. Although they worked fine we discovered that we both like the flip-open style.
Anyway, so far we're VERY happy with the 6102i. My spouse's ear speaker was very loud from the start so I was more than a little concerned when mine, out of the box, was hard to hear. After reading the book, however, I discovered that these phones have a VOLUME CONTROL for the ear speaker as well as a volume control for the ring tone. Motorola phones, at least those I've had, didn't have a speaker volume control. Mine had been turned down for some reason. As soon as I turned it up to match the setting of my wife's phone it was more than loud enough.
The screen is plenty bright, even for outdoors, so far. The camera's acceptable, but that's not a major thing for me. I actually purchased and downloaded a Creedence song for a ring tone, because they made it so easy on this phone. Overall, we're very satisfied with the phones.
We acquired the phones directly from Cingular for a two-year extension of the contract. The first one cost around $30 and the second one was free due to a price drop.
