"This is a very good phone"
Pros: RECEPTION!, ease of use,
Cons: not many. minor stuff
Summary: I've had this phone now going on 3 weeks. let me start first by comparinbg this phone to my last 2 phones: a Razr and a Samsung ZX20.
The reception in the Razr is very good. Motorola quality as with most American made products was eh - just allright. Battery life on Moto products is not good. I'm not using it anymore because ---- it broke. It was always too wide for me anyway.
The Samsung ZX20 is fast on the internet as advertised HOWEVER reception TOTALLY sucks! there's a lot of bells and whistles on this phone but the one thing I want it to do is send and receive quality calls and this phone failed miserably. This was my first and last experiment with Samsung.
On to this phone. First the cons: I hate that exposed lip on the lower portion. This is one of the only design flaws. It makes the phone look longer than it is. The push button opener is a cool idea but sometimes the flip doesn't smoothly or open all the way. it needs some help but most of the time it does work. I just hope down the road after thousands of openings this push button doesn't take a dump on me and stop opening. my question is if ever the opening mechanism breaks will it still open/close properly like a normal clamshell?
Texting is OK but I wish Nokia designed a better indicator that the message is actually sent. As it is, there is a tiny indicator at the top of the main display letting you know your text is being sent. Once it's sent, your text message stays on the display. You need to click "Exit". If you don't, that text will still be there when you open the phone. In fact, why is it Nokia that whatever is left on the display stays there when you open it? Most phones just go back to the desktop when you close/re-open it.
The chrome around the keypad could also say bye-bye. It's easy to scratch. I wish this phone was all black.
As for the internet, I knew this was a foreign phone so it did not have any pre-installed browser set up for Media Net - Cingular's internet connection. I tried for 1-1/2 weeks to figure out how to set up the browser only to find out that you CAN'T! Thanks to a good soul on the internet, he suggested you go to Nokia.com to download the service. You will be provided a password but once you get the file from Nokia, there will be no need to manually set up your browser. Just click "Home" and you're on the web.
Connection speed is very fast. Personally I can't tell the difference between Edge & 3G. They're both fast to me!
I thought battery life on the Razr was bad but battery life on this phone is REALLY bad!
You make 3 or 4 phone calls, maybe surf the web a couple of minutes and it's back to the charger you go! I find myself recharging EVERY day! But that's OK with me. I will gladly trade great reception for battery life any day.
This phone has lots of positives. Great reception, good design, except for that underbite or lip that sticks out. Big, bright main display, full customization of the buttons. Nokia's user interface is THE best. It was good before but they've made some very good improvements. I did not once look in the user manual, then again, I'm a systems administrator and a gadget freak so operating this phone came easy to me. Even for the beginner, this phone is very user friendly.
The speakerphone is very clear with no distortion. Bluetooth was easy to connect with any device be it computer, headset or external speaker.
Overall, this phone is a very nice improvement over the Samsung ZX20. They look alike but performance is like night and day.
Nokia - lose that lip!
