"Discussion of positives and negatives" on by eric_e005
Pros: Full Bluetooth, IR, MMC memory expansion, FM radio, MP3 playback, speakerphone, camera w. flash
Cons: Flat number pad, ok display quality
Summary: I've had this phone for a couple of weeks now. I'm gonna list what in my opinion makes this phone great, and also the things that Nokia could improve on to make this phone even better.
Beginning with the positives...
This is currently the only phone that is not bluetooth-crippled by Verizon. Thus, the full-bluetooth capabilities allow file transfers to your computer without the need of paying Verizon money to send your pics/vids. The phone also has IR to allow file transfers as well.
The phone's memory could be expanded with an MMC memory card. This card is similar to a normal-sized SD card, so it is cheaper and not as fragile as the mini-SD and tiny transflash cards other phones are using for memory expansion.
The speakerphone is loud and clear enough. It may get a bit distorted at the highest volume but it's not a big problem.
A few extras are included in the phone such as a Language Translator and a Units Converter.
You can play MP3's on the phone which could be loaded on the MMC memory card.
The phone also has FM Radio but a speacial headset is required. If you search online you will find an OEM Nokia headset that works for under $15.
The vga camera takes decent pictures.
Call quality is great and I haven't had any dropped calls.
Ok, now for the negatives/areas of improvement....
In my opinion the number-pad is inferior to the ones found on other phones such as Motorola and LG. It is FLAT and that round menu button may be difficult to press depending on your finger size.
The internal display is very unimpressive. My previous phones have been Sony Ericsson T616, Motorola V551, and Motorola E815; they are all far superior in display quality and brightness than this Nokia 6256i.
MP3 files loaded on to the MMC memory card cannot be asigned as your ringtone. Verizon had to cripple SOME features and this is one of them. However, if your read around the Howard forums you will find a 'fix' to this problem.
Last but not least... in my opinion this phone is bulky and a bit ugly. -
"Lots of features: No complaints" on by amasia
Pros: Photo quailty, ease of use, IR/Bluetooth capabilities, MP3/video/photo, Expandable memory, FM radio, Voice recorder, Good UI
Cons: Larger size, but comparable to phones with the same features
Summary: I just bought this phone a couple days ago. I had been looking into it for a while now, and it went on sale, so i bought it. I have no complaints about it. I was able to pick it up and use all the features right out of the box. Its kinda heavy, compared to my last phone, but it has a good feel to it.
I don't have bluetooth on my computer, but the IR data transfer practically operated itself. Using bluetooth and IR is great for getting around paying verizon for tranferring photos. I wasn't able to transfer music files to the phone, I think maybe you can only use a MMC card for that.
I'm used to Samsung menus, but the UI is intuitive. The only thing i can't figure out is how to customize the quick start buttons.
I haven't heard the sound quality yet for mp3 files, but the voice recorder quailty is certainly good enough. You can add voice tags to applications and contacts. Easy quick button for voice recording, and voice activated calling.
The outside mini display is hard to read when its not backlighted. Its hard to see the time quickly without opening the phone, if its not full daytime out. Um, there's an extendable antennea, which i don't use, because i'm worried about breaking it off accidentally.
I just saw that it had a built in converter application, not sure if I'l luse that at all. And there's a translator or english/spanish/french/portugese but i can't get it to work. Maybe i have to be connect to vcast or something for it to search the database.
This is a great phone for verizon. I didn't want a phone with a 2MP camera (so i don't feel bad about buying a new digicam), but the quality of the photos seems great, though i haven't transferred them to my computer to see the quality. If you need a verizon phone, and want the features, this is a good phone for the money. -
"Suprised average is a 7.7." on by dms111
Pros: Pros... it is a Nokia.
Cons: Cons... I guess you get what you pay for.
Summary: I could not wait to get this phone when I heard Nokia finally had a flip phone for Verizon. I promptly downloaded about 7 or 8 ringtones only to find that you can not apply downloaded ringtones to individual people. Verizon has also disabled mp3 usage for this phone. These, and also the size of the phone made me feel like technology went backward to about 1999. Traded it in for a Motorola E815. I have always loved Motorola phones and this one is the greatest.

"Kudos to Nokia" on by thejnuno
Pros: Plethera of features, Unlockable for tech junkies, quality reception, standard nokia traits
Cons: estheticlly, not the best looking phone on the market
Summary: What is important when choosing a cell phone? A lot of things, for starters.
Of course you need reception, and text messaging. But now there are the ever-changing ringtones as well as camera phones and internet applications ... all of which you normally have to pay alot extra for. The good thing about Nokia's latest, is that you get all those features, but if you upload the right software, you dont have to pay for them. Bluetooth and cable connectivity are huge saviors in that department for those who know how to work it.
One thing I love about this phone (this company), they have had the same exact concept of a phone since their orignal brick phones 10+/- years ago. Who doesnt remember having one of those things that was five inches long and 3 inches thick? Im sure we all have had one of those and have a charger or two lying around from years past. Guess what? Nokia does something nobody else does... the same charger works for their products, period. Think about it this way... instead of making a new antennae, they keep the same design and just make it better... instead of making a new charger for every phone, they keep the same one... instead of putting new software and menus in the new phone, they only expand upon the standard design that is classic to nokia's style. So what does it matter if the menu's are all the same? ... you buy something, figure it out... and then go to upgrade, what happens but you have to adjust to the new technology, and you dont always learn all your features, right? well... when you have the same basic map (menus) and your gradually expand upon that map with new features, I think that gives alot of people a good idea of how to navigate their phones ...I mean, they've definatly come a long way from the black and green screens. of course that doesnt apply matter to me, but I know some of you just generally dont like keeping up on technology. Consistancy keeps a customer base, making people loyal to their products... It also lets you know that the phone will work solidly... eventhough this is their first flip phone, the flip is not a new concept so I have a feeling that the marketing dept at Nokia has paid attention to the competitors mistakes before jumping into that race. There is something comforting knowing that someone didnt just jump into what fits and what sells best, but what holds most quality. Nokia is like a Land Rover... eventhough the Rovers look very slightly different than they did 10 years ago, you still know by sight exactly what they are... its classic and it works.
My only dislike is the look of the phone... personally, I dont think its verry pretty... but it does have charachter and much like alot of things, its personality will probably grow on me soon enough.
