"Good call quality, features.Dropped calls in idle mode." on by nspiratn
Pros: Good sound and call quality. Good features. Nice looking phone. Customizable. Keypad available when flip phone is closed. Keypad locking capability.
Cons: Bad location of GPS navigation and Web keys. Dropped calls in sleep mode. No customizable number of rings before call ends up in voicemail (call carrier for this).
Summary: I have had this phone for about 3 months now. Since there were workarounds for all issues, I like this phone overall. It's a very good basic phone if you're don't use the web too much or text incessantly.
Good sound quality in both handset and speaker modes. Features - loudspeaker, calendar, alarms, profiles etc. Customizable profiles, display (themes), keypad light color etc. Sleek looking phone.
You end up accidentally pressing Web key if you press call key and end up pressing the gps navigation key when using the center left navigation key. Since I don't use web features I had to call AT&T and disable the feature because I got billed for the accidental key presses.
Iin sleep mode, the screensaver shows up and calls drop if you don't answer quickly. No dropped calls if not in sleep mode.
I had to call AT&T to increase the number of rings before the call goes to voicemail. This is not customizable on the phone. -
"Beware of sharp edges. Poor design." on by pma3436
Pros: Lots of features, good looking, brilliant screens
Cons: Buttons are very stiff. Your fingers will be sore quickly. Also, the metal faceplate extends slightly over the top of the flap near the hinge, leaving a sharp edge and corner points.
Summary: At first glance, this looks like a great phone with lots of attractive features. I was looking forward to using the GPS application, and many of the features are a step up from my current 6102i. However, there are some serious drawbacks that will have me returning the phone.
First, the buttons are extremely stiff. After less than an hour with the phone, my fingers were very sore. That was yesterday, and my thumb still hasn't recovered.
Second, there is a serious design flaw with the front cover plate. It's made of metal, and at the top, near the hinge, it overhangs the front flap. It's enough to create a very sharp edge that will cut you if you aren't careful. And at the top corners, they are very sharp. Don't put this in any pocket you don't want sliced open.
The phone will be going back for a different model. -
"In trying to please everyone Nokia falls short." on by zuse71
Pros: 3-1/2 stars for the PHONE only. Great reception, good call quality & speakerphone. Texting & web surfing just OK. Email access is good. Battery good.
Cons: 1 or 2 stars for features. Internal memory limitations. Have to "manage" the phone with Nokia software & PC. As all-in-one device it doesn't live up to expectations. Manual/web site not user friendly. Must accessorize to use fully.
Summary: I wanted a Nokia phone with exceptional reception & quality, easy texting & 3G service & not spend a fortune. This is a very good phone - not a good all-in-one device. It is a PHONE. Very good basic phone services. Exceptional reception compared to other phones such as the iPhone and Treo. The call quality is very good - even from remote southern hemipshere. Speakerphone is very good. Internal display has good colors & crisp text - can enlarge font size as needed.
External ports have flimsy plastic doors & attachment cords. Battery cover is tough to open. The microSD card is tricky to insert & extract. Touch screen too easy AND too hard to activate.
Texting requires too many menu levels.
The red metal case is burnished & too smooth so is easy to drop or slide around. Get a case to prevent scratches.
Ringtones can be customized. Photos can be used in the address book. Phone is not recognized by some online sites so you can't download tones from them. I make my own ringtones & email them to the phone but file size seems to be limited. Voice dialing uses a synthesized voice rather than your own voice. To use, save address entries to the phone using precious memory. When phone rings the ringtone is followed by a 100% garbled synthesized voice as a Caller ID.
3G service is pretty fast for loading web sites but graphics heavy sites can't open due to the limited internal memory. Even some text sites w/o graphics don?t display a 2nd or 3rd page due to ?Memory Full? error. This is a problem. I have very little saved to the phone & it is constantly telling me to close open apps (even when I only have one open). To ?manage? this you have to download the Nokia software. This literally took hours (& I am not a novice) to perform as the software didn?t recognize this phone model. I made 4 attempts including having to update the ?cable driver? before it would recognize the phone & the cabel itself. That took multiple tries & hours as well. Once done it worked but OH SO SLOWLY. Having to ?manage? the phone with a computer negates the whole idea of useful portable device. I am really disappointed in this software & Nokia "support."
I would love to get rid of the included demo only games/apps that use memory. Games laughably slow. It would have been better to upgrade the memory, camera or music player and skip this game thing.
There is a dedicated camera button on the upper right of the keypad. Even in good light at highest quality setting photos are poor-grainy. There are 4 white balance settings but most ?accurate? colors provided by ?fluorescent.? ?Sunlight? gives a bright yellow or orange tone to the photos. The ?automatic? setting gives the most washed out photos. However, there is a red sensor so all the photos have a definite pinkish hue, especially in the center of the photo. It is slow to capture the photo. In lower light, just plain bad. Video is the same. There is a ?flash? but it overexposes the subject if it is close. More than a couple feet away and it is useless. Downloading photos to your PC is a waste of time since enlarging the photos really exposes poor quality. I have a real camera so I don?t rely on my phone for still or video. If you use your phone camera to record your life or art do not buy this phone. Be warned.
Music is so-so. Sound quality is mediocre. Scratchy, noisy and tinny. It takes a while to find/convert/upload the music using the Nokia software and your PC. The music player frequently turns on inadvertently because the exterior touch screen display is easily triggered. It is harder to turn off. Fingernails useful. No earphones in box. Need earphone adapter accessory. It is not compatible with songs downloaded thru iTunes.
AT&T Navigator GPS is free for 30 days. I didn?t even log on as I have a GPS. I did download Google maps and it does work on this phone. You have to cancel the AT&T before the 30 days are up so you don?t have to pay for it. I read where there are real problems with the Navigator. There is a dedicated GPS button right in the center of the keypad which takes getting used to - you tend to accidently hit it quite often until you get used to the placement.
The AT&T Cellular video service that is a free with the media plan is OK but few selections. Quality is acceptable for such a small screen.
The battery has been very good. I haven?t used it heavily so it is days between charges. Quicker depletion under heavy use is suggested by moderate use.
Weird: Tthe phone chimes every hour at 10 minutes after the hour. This is not an alarm setting that can be turned off.
Stupid: Voice mail icon buried in Settings menu instead of Messages menu.
Useless features: PTT-button on left edge easy to hit by mistake. Charges apply. Why bother with that? Games? Puh-leeze. Voice dialing synthesizer - HUH?
Doesn't live up to expectations but it is a good PHONE. 3-1/2 stars for the phone only. Other stuff is a 1 or 2 at best. -
"As a mid-range flip-phone this is a failure." on by ShardZartan
Pros: Call clarity is nice.
Cons: Poor programming / design on the interface. Difficult to setup and use basic phone functions. Default keyboard lock constantly in effect, if you set it to "off", it still attempts to lock and beeps that it is disengaged. Front surface keys, Why?
Summary: If you are looking for a small mp3 player with a medium memory that also makes calls, this is your unit. A flip-phone's basic design is to protect the keys from accidental use when not making a call. Sensitive keys on the phone front surface are down right stupid. And whoever designed the interface should be ashamed. This was my first Nokia phone and if this is in any way indicative of their other products I will never buy one again.

"An OK phone for a regular use." on by cherianpperumal
Pros: I always wanted to get a Nokia phone. I like the sturdy look to it. I like the razor type look to it.
Cons: The keys are not well defined. The keys do not have a good backlighting; so, it is very difficult to dial during night time. There is a GPS option to this phone; but with AT&T the data transfer is too slow and takes too long.
Summary: A good phone for those who do not need to access email and data over the internet.
