"Good phone, needs help for internet connections." on by Karla30

Pros: Appearance, size and feel is good. Easy to navigate different functions. Email function is great. (unless you have Hotmail) You can use a stylus on the touch screen, much easier than bulky fingers in small spots.

Cons: Internet connection splotchy. Not dependable for business. I've had trouble getting on line to almost everything, even with 3G. Wifi might help. Camera is slow. Don't try photographing kids or pets!

Summary: I'm still on the fence for this one. I've had it for 3 days. I mostly got it so that I could connect to the web and have had difficulty in doing that about 80% of the time. Some sites, 100%! I know I can't count on it for business. Gmail works nicely, but unfortunately, my main email account is with Hotmail and I can't get signed on at all. My battery life has not been very good. Maybe it's all that searching, searching, searching trying to connect to the web.

Update. After having much trouble getting connected to any web sites that I actually needed, I called TM and at first was told I was on the wrong data plan, so they changed that. I tried a couple more days, still not able to access the sites I needed, so I called back and was told this is NOT a fully functioning web browsing phone like the G1 or Blackberry. I can only access some sites. Since the main ones I need are not accessable, I will be returning my phone. It is sleek and cool looking, but I really don't like how many steps it takes to get to the actual dialing of a number. Maybe surfing the net and having a phone in the same device is just too much to ask for. :( Not sure If I'll try another web type phone or just go back to some version of a flip phone.

I just purchased this phone on 3/6/09 and having the same problem. Went from BB Pearl to this one. Not sure I like this but do like the touch screen. BB was a better phone in my opinion.

Initially, I couldn't get into my hotmail. Opera Mini allows me access to hotmail and every and any other site my heart desires.

It's tough reading these reviews and knowing whether or not the phone is a good choice. One person says they can't reach internet sites and that would concern me. I'm not sure if that means the internet site is blocked or the phone's browser is so lousy it can't connect. Several people say the email doesn't work but don't give details about what it is that doesn't work. I have comcast internet at home and my email accounts are with them. Would I be able to send and receive email through comcast's POP server with this phone? I don't have a GPS in my car so having it on my phone would be nice, and now I learn that you have to pay for it but nobody mentions exactly how much it costs. I live in a pretty good 3G signal area. I guess I'll give it a whirl and if I don't like it, take it back within 30 days (the law in Calif. is 30 days). I just wish there was some consistency with the reviews on here. You just don't know who to believe.

Consider a Windows Mobile based phone for Hotmail.

I'm curious about what sites you're not able to reach as well. I've had the Behold for a week now, and I've had no problems accessing the internet. Granted, it gives you WAP sites by default, but I prefer that; and I can always switch to full-HTML browsing if I want to. There are some redirect issues that the standard browser has problems with (which is probably why you can't sign on to MSN Live), but you can hack the Behold and install Opera Mini for that functionality.

I haven't missed the lack of WiFi, but I do live in an area with dense 3G coverage.

I'm curious to know what sites it can't reach? Do you get an error message? It says on T-mobile's website "Real Web Browsing" (which is for people with the Data Plan) It can stream video on youtube so it has flash video support built in, does it not do Java Based websites?

BTW the phone supports POP Email so you can get e-mails straight to your phone without having to access hotmail through the browser you just have to set up the POP through the phone's wizard. (Most phones can't access Hotmail... Like my Blackberry which has trouble 75% of the time and my sister's HTC Shadow which can't access Hotmail through the browser either.)

WiFI and 3g Connectivity is a shame because it truly does depend on where you are relative to the 3g area and how close you are to a secur(or unsecure) wifi spot. I'm in the center of a 3g area so I'm assuming I get good 3G coverage.

All in all the Behold still has me very interested but now a little concerned :P

Thank you for this Reveiw!. I have a G1, it is a bit bulky so when I see my friend has this Samsung I wanted to change, but now that I know it does not get online I will keep my G1.
