    "Very Disappointed!"

    by JRRTolkien on June 21, 2008

    Pros: Small & Light. Email works fine.

    Cons: Can't synch your calendar or contacts. Very unresponsive!

    Summary: For years I've been a user of the clunky, but highly effective 6700sp running on Windows Mobile 6.0. Instinct is a huge disappointment. It did connect fine to my server and found 25 of my emails, but I can't manage the messages apart from deleting, forwarding, replying. With the 6700 I could manage all my folders, move emails to other folders, etc. And everything synched with my Microsoft Exchange Server...calendar, appointments, contacts/addresses, etc. Why didn't Sprint/Samsung stick with the reliable Window Mobile software? If you follow your instinct, you'll stick with what you have or simply get the better IPhone G3. Of course, Instinct is incompatible with MAC, but even on a PC I couldn't get any of the synching software to run successfully. Beyond all of this, Instinct is really unresponsive, and downright quirky. The web works sometimes, and sometimes not. The browser is cumbersome and disappointing. My Instinct is going back on Monday and I'll just go back to my 6700 until the G3 IPhone comes out. Then I'll have to make the decision about moving over to ATT.

    I don't know why everyone is complaining about this not being a smartphone. Guess what, it isn't. It wasn't designed to be one. This is a multimedia phone and what it does it does very well. If someone is looking for a smartphone, then you should look into getting a Blackberry or Palm phone.

    You guys are funny, it's a media phone, not a Blackberry, it's like you bought an el camino and complaining it can't haul/tow heavy stuff!

    Several flaws:
    no syncing with any scheduling calendar;
    no direct downloading capability from the web browser;
    no automatic spelling correction NOR intuitive word/sentence completer;
    And, NO COPY AND PASTE feature!!!
    Limited favorites (around 10) list capabilities
    PROS:
    Nice camera and decent video
    can watch few tv programs, news, etc.
    can listen to select radio stations, but NO NPR???
    would i buy this??? no, I would have saved up $100 more and bought the IPHONE not the instink

    you are Bragging on windows 6.0 ....... I have the HTC touch....had the Mogul.....they both suck as a phone.....good for other things.....the guys at the store told me it was windows 6.0 was the problems with my phones...they hang up and you have to hit the reset button often

    I agree with everything stated in this review & have to add the poor capabilities of the calendar feature. I have three kids. Our schedule is crazy. I found out the hard way that the calendar for the instinct is limited to 60 appointments!? Beyond that, you get a NO MORE EMPTY SPACE message. I had the palm treo and you could put as many appointments in that as you wanted. It is unbelievable that they would limit the number of appointments. After spending a lot of waisted time with sprint cust. svc., someone finally told me Samsung designed instinct to hold only 60 appt. Another fault of the calendar is repeating events don't display beyond the first day you put the appointment in. With the palm treo, I could not only show appointments as repeating and the appointments actually appeared on the calendar, I could also set an ending date. The calendar feature spoils all other features for me. About the only thing good I can say is that voicemail is very cool, displays on screen.

    I bought 3 moguls a year ago and they are all slow, drop calls, dial out on their own, and lock up ( usually while driving) which rquires a re-boot to get it to work again. I have replaced one, the second just quit working, and my wifes will not sync half the time. I am not sold on the Instinct but I am looking at because Sprint has a special plan with it that will save me over $100 a month.

    If you read my review, you'd know I went through the same thing. It took me a while to realize what I've done, I downgraded from a smartphone to just a regular phone. The one thing I can honestly say is that this phone kinda bites when you don't have Microsoft outlook on your computer. My notebook came with Windows Mail, and this phone couldn't even syncronize with that.

    If you want to stick with Sprint, I'd say go for the Palms (755p or Centro). They have pretty good software and email readings. The only thing is that it doesn't have a GPS and it's not on realtime sync, meaning you have to click update before your email gets forwarded to your phone.

    Any questions, just check it out.

    You'd know this isn't a 'smartphone'
    If you're looking for something like that, get a Blackberry or something. My best friend just got the Instinct and he loves it, but he uses it for messaging and GPS, like it was designed for. Perhaps you're looking at the wrong phone to do what you need it to do.

    I disagree witn WM6 being reliable. I have teh HTC Mogul and WM6 is one of the things I hate the most. I'm considering the Instinct or the Centro.
