"Great phone for people who use a phone to make calls"
on by dunadinPros Small, light, good call quality, Voice commands, MP3 player
Cons No expandable memory
Summary This is great phone for people who use their phone primarily to make calls. It is small, light, has vibration alarm and a small set of utilities (alarm clock, calculator, world clock to name some). And then there is the MP3 player as bonus.
As for the usability, the keys are small and not suitable for a lot of texting. Also, as mentioned in the main review, you have to flip the phone upside down when opening it. However, it took me maybe 5 phone calls to get used to it and now I do it single handedly. And in the end, with voice command and a good headset, I only take the phone out of my pocket to charge it or select a different soundtrack anyway.
The camera does not make movies, but then again I only use it to take a photo of my shopping list off the fridge (and it does a great job in case you ever have to document an accident). No minus for the missing movie part on my side.
The MP3 player works great and 2GB is plenty for a good workout, although it would have been nice to have a microSD slot. This is the only downside as far as I am concerned.
Missing 3G or V cast is ok. I don't download songs for $2 anyway and the small form factor rules web browsing out even if it would be included. Having 3G and using the phone as a modem with the laptop would have been the icing, though.
Bottom line: I got mine on the release date and have been very happy with it. If you need all the online bells and whistles, this is not the phone for you. If you need a phone than can make calls, has the important extras on the road and replaces your Nano in the gym, get it. -
"Great Phone and Music Player"
on by ralyksandnirePros Easy to operate
Cons No major cons
Summary This is a great phone. If you are looking for a phone that all you really do with it is to place calls then this one works. The music player is great too. The 2Gig internal memory is the perfect amount for someone who just wants to listen to a mix of music and not carry around there entire music collection. The headphones that are included have good sound for ear buds. The camera has good color for such a small phone. But the screen is a little too small to be take pics to keep for memories. The battery lasts al ot longer then i thought. I use the music player for about 8 hours a day at work and still have plenty of battery life left. A few things i do not like is that i can't change the color of the clock on the front screen when the phone is closed and that i cant adjust the sensitivity of the scroll wheel. you have to do almost a quarter turn to make it scroll to the next option. Theres are minor problems. the phone is still a great phone and would recommend it to anyone.

"GREAT PHONE....NOT A PC."
on by shokardPros Great Shape. Bluetooth Stereo. Mp3 player. Easy Controls.
Cons Speaker isn't great, No Video, Camera sub-par. Can't start my car, Doesn't work as ice scraper. Doesn't make coffee.
Summary I've had this phone for about a month now which means I haven't had a great deal of time to test out its durability, however, It has been enough time to get most of the phones functions "programmed" into muscle memory so I feel as though I'm at least somewhat of a credible reviewer. First off, this phone isn't the most technologically advanced phone, if you're looking for a phone with a bunch of features that you'll probably never use this one isn't for you. However, if you've had phones that "do it all" and realized that you rarely use all those features (because sitting yourself down at a computer is about 100 x's easier) and what you really need is a PHONE, then you're looking in the right area. The biggest plus for me, perhaps sadly enough, was this phone's shape. It's small but also very comfortable in the hand even when it's opened and it still has enough "bulk" to it that it doesn't feel like it's going to snap if I hold it too tightly. The keypad suprisingly enough doesn't really feel much different than a normal phone so it doesn't take much to get used to.(Although the scroll wheel is also the "OK" button which is on a different level than the keypad (see photos) which is kind of different) Also, the phone IS small enough so that, with a little practice, you can open and close it with one hand pretty easily.
The mp3 player is nice and since I'm a firm believer that there aren't actually too many people who really need more than 500 songs at any given time I think 2gb is enough,(although I think it's awesome that people may have 1000 full albums in their library I have a feeling only a handful of the songs have a play count greater than 1) and along those same lines the music transfer is fairly simple and painless. As for not having V-Cast I can't really say how painful it is not having that capability since I was always too cheap to have used it in the past, but I will say it might be a good thing since, knowing verizon, if it had V-cast capabilities, verizon would probably somehow disable the ability to download music from your computer so you either had to buy music from them or buy some sort of special software from verizon. Also, as previously mentioned, this phone doesn't have video capabilities and the camera isn't great, but at the same time if these are super important features I may suggest buying a video camera or camera or else you may be disappointed.
The phones screen, although fairly skinny, serves its purpose, but since it's always on the outside of the phone I'd HIGHLY recommend a screen protector.
Improvements which could be made:
-Have the option to answer calls with the phone closed. (this can be done currently through speakerphone or with a bluetooth headset but it might be nice to be able to keep the phone closed and answer it like a normal phone (like the old Kyocera Kx2))
-Make some sort of locking mechanism so that the phone doesn't pop open when in a pocket. (this hasn't been a huge problem yet since the spring isn't strong enough to really "Pop" all the way open in a pocket but sometimes it can open part way which could potentially lead to a broken phone)
-Make a louder speaker for the speaker phone.
-Add a basic video capability.
-Rotate the screen automatically when the phone closes (Also like the Kx2) so the person doesn't have to rotate the phone for the clock to be right-side up. (This is definitely a VERY TINY problem (I've kind of just gotten used to it) but one that could be corrected)
Overall this phone gets quite a bit of attention but it'll be old news in about a month so buyer beware. But frankly, I got this phone because it works as a great PHONE, and I so I won't be needing something new for at least a little while longer. I've given it an 8 because it could easily be improved but as of right now I REALLY like it. -
"Haven't Bought, but some things you might want to consider-"
on by cant_get_enough_techPros great design, unique
Cons size ratio. thick
Summary This phone is a great phone, but the problem is it seems very thick. When they say lip-stick shaped, they mean it. When something is this skinny across and tall, it looks like it is very thick. About an inch. So if you are looking for something discreet in your pocket, not so much. Or else very good. BTW, I thoroughly looked this over at the VerizonWireless store after debating to purchase or not.
Updated
I was typing a TXT to myself, and my thumbs kept hitting each other and that seriously impaired my TXTing speed. I don't have particularly large thumbs, but the phone is still very skinny. Also, the twisting mechanism is quite nice, but I feel as if it will wear out easily after many opening and closings. -
