Pros 3 home screens and a lock screen. Covers don't make the phone bulky, MP3 player, full size headset jack, touch screen very responsive, fully size qwerty keyboard, customizable shortcut menu, side slot for sd card, easy to load music/pics/ringtones!
Cons Dislike that they don't have a key pad on touch screen to text, MP3 player does not automatically continue to play after getting call or text while listening to music, ringtones automatically placed in music list, limited on customizing & on widgets.
Summary I love this phone, but have a lot of pros and cons.
PROS - 3 home screens, separate lock screens (means you can have 4 phone backgrounds total at the same time!). Covers don't make phone bulky, great at playing music (gets pretty loud!), love touch screen-very responsive, allows customizing widgets for each home screen instead of having to go to menu, easy to load music, ringtones, and pics. Easy to move items from card to phone or vice versa. Battery life isn't bad for everything it does (battery life could always be better). Great keyboard, buttons are easy to use (I have little hands, would recommend playing with the phone in the store before buying). Love the dedicated music & messaging buttons on the front of the phone below the touch screen. Customizable short cuts menu is a plus. Not limited to how many people you can have on speed dial. When searching through contacts they have a few easy ways you can search, love the multiple options given makes it seem more user friendly. Has a full size headset jack but not all headsets are able to be used (not sure if this is the fault of the phone shape or the makers of the headsets just be careful and keep that in mind when spending money for a new headset). They have a widget to setup top 5 friends for easy calling and texting. Multiple ways to access options for call & text which is a plus. Micro sd card slot on the side, no more opening up your phone to access!!!
Cons - Wish they had a key pad on the touch screen, I don't always want to open up my keyboard to type (they do have an on screen dialer but that's it). When loading ring tone files they go to the music list as well (hate listening to music then catching a 20 second ring tone in the middle). Limited to customizing text settings on phone. Limited as to what widgets can be placed on the phone. I think if it's a menu option it should be a widget option as well! When getting text, phone calls, etc... if playing music it stops completely. Does not start back after playing the alert. Cannot minimize music player to use phone while playing music that I have found. (could be I haven't found the setting to minimize it but I honestly don't think it exists..which is a major con in my point of view because I'm a multi-tasker). Can't customize menus or the calendars colors or text at all. They do have a help widget to show how to use the widgets but by the time you find it, you've already figured it out since it's on the widget menu lol. Setting up contact groups allows you to message everyone in that group, but doesn't allow you to use the group as a way to pull an individual's name out quickly for individual messaging. Another con to the group messaging is that it only allows up to 10 people per group (I needed about 20 for some groups). Do not have the option to send picture messages as a full size pic. Only comes through as thumb nail so only background trading you can do would be through blue tooth or loaning them your sd card. Only 2 mg pixel camera, not as clear at taking videos as other phones.
With all the cons I have, I still love the phone! My major issues are that the MP3 player stops when getting text messages because I listen to music a LOT with my phone and the issue with the ringtones and mp3 files being in the same places when they have two separate menus for ringtones and music. Also the limitation on the widgets BUT if I wanted a ton of apps to be on my phone I would pay more money and have an internet phone that I had to pay $10-$40 a month. I don't think the extra money just to use a phone is appealing so that's why I decided on this one. I don't think I made the wrong decision.
For someone looking for a texting phone I think you should really look into this one. I haven't had an issue with my phone shutting down at all. I know my gf had an issue with turning on the camera when she was sliding out her keyboard, but it was just because she was putting her finger on the camera button lol. I've not hit my camera by accident even once while using the phone. I've had it about one month and love it!
I just want you all to have all the possible pros and cons that I can think of. I have the black, my gf has the blue. We love both colors! The blue does show around the edges when you have the case on that's why I went with the black, but she has a dark purple cover on her phone and it looks great even with the blue. You may want the black if you want to change out covers and don't want the blue showing through. It was a deciding factor for me, but I'm picky.
Also, something I didn't know before this phone (because I've never really been on the internet on my phone) you do not have to have the internet to communicate on fb, twiter, yahoo emails, yahoo im's etc... You can just set it up to have those programs message you the information and updates;then you can update it on your phone using your text. Just FYI.
My last phone was the LG Glimmer.
Pros -very responsive touch screen
-very simple user interface
-large "dialer" keypad
-shortcuts screen (put browser and email there)
-1K contacts, won't ever use them all
-physical messaging shortcut
Cons -camera (2.0MP)
-more responsive browser
-social networking widget
-open source widgets
-average battery life
-turn TouchWiz OFF!
-larger text character limit (160)
Summary I have had this phone for almost 6 months now, granted I use the Alltel version of the phone. I upgraded from an LG Scoop that I had for 2yrs. I decided to take a try with the r631 and see how I felt (I had early upgrade option and old phone still works) about having a touch phone. I cracked the screen on my first one about a month ago and I purchased another I was so in love with the phone. It is a very simplistic phone, don't get me wrong, but considering this, the phone is a very powerful one.
The bluetooth is great. It connects flawlessly to a headset, computer, even another phone with the greatest of ease while still being as secure as possible. (connect confirmation option)
As a texting phone, this phone is second to none. There are many options to make messaging the number one priority on this phone (touch wiz shortcut, physical button shortcut, in the menu, option to put in shortcut menu, setting to go to messaging screen when slid open) The QWERTY keyboard might be a little small, but as long as you don't have sausage fingers you will not find much of a problem with it. The keys are very easy to find and are very plainly labeled (black keys on black phone with white letters and fn options are blue as well as numeric keypad that is a fn option, fn key is blue also with white letters as are the tabs of the numeric keys) There is also a return key so if you really wanted to type a paragraph you could (minus the 160 character limit). When taking a picture, if you open the slider after capturing an image it automatically directs you to the new picture message screen. If the character limit on the phone would exceed 160, this phone would be an avid txt dream!
This non-smart phone has internet! It is very slow. Sometimes, you have to type a key two or three times for the browser to recognize it. The browser does get the point across if you're caught in a bind away from a computer.
The TouchWiz never really made my day. The widgets are not all that useful for this phone because it's such a simple user-interface to start. All it really did was make a spot on my phone a major pain when I pressed the wrong corner of my screen. It's nice that you can disable all the widgets but wouldn't it be so much easier to just disable it alltogether or get it real widgets that made it usefull?
The Final Bottom Line is that I love this phone and that while there are minor flaws we must all remember, We live far away from perfect, and even with that said this phone brings us pretty darn close for a small price.
Pros The touch screen is big and bright and fun to use. Full keyboard makes for easy texting. Love the buzz the phone makes when you select a menu item or use the dialer.
Cons Lack of preloaded ringtones but not sure if that's the provider or manufacturer at fault...
Summary The phone looks cool, has all the features you need and is affordable. This phone is perfect for someone who likes it simple but appreciates new techy features.
Pros Holds charge well, great call quality, html web-browsing, easily personalized with wallpapers and unique ringtones, nice speakerphone, decent pre-loaded apps, compact.
Cons Lower profile QWERTY keyboard buttons make for slower texting and more mistakes, touch screen not as intuitive as other phones, mediocre camera, text messaging limited to 150 characters per text, no multiple page texts.
Pros It's a touch screen which was better then my last phone....that's about it!
Cons I miss calls and messages, people ask me all the time why I keep sending them the same txt message, it turns off and back on all the time on it's own, its slow, there's something going on with the memory card. I have taken it out, taken the battery out tu
Summary DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE.......IT SUCKS! If I can keep just one person from making the mistake of buying it i will be happy!
