"Lots of bells and whistles in a compact size" on by vespa55

Pros: Terrific call/audio quality, RF surprisingly good, 1.03 megapixel camera a plus, voice service option takes a little getting used to but it's nice

Cons: Speakerphone isn't as loud and clear as it should be, lavender finish may be a turnoff but it's only apparent in low lighting, not many avail addon accessories yet

Summary: I bought a Sanyo 8300 expecting a great audio/call quality phone and was disappointed for it was too bulky and the audio sounded very muddy. The Samsung MM-A880 is quite the performer when it comes to call/audio quality. The size is just right and the lavender finish may take a little getting used to. The color finish has grown on me and the performance of the phone's primary purpose (making/receiving phone calls with great audio quality) impressed me. Certainly a keeper.

"good compact phone" on by benzslrpee

Pros: good phone, good battery life (for sprint phones), megapixel camera, good reception

Cons: did anyone notice that this thing is purple? not so good picture quality, odd shaped keys...PURPLE i say PURPLE

Summary: alright boys, here is the definitive review let all others keep their peace after i voice my authoritative opinion.

first things first. if you live in an area where Sprint service is spotty, then for the love God why are you giving a phone review? thats like me saying i live in a the rocky mountains with unpaved roads but i'm going to give a full review on how my Ferarri Scaglietti performs. morons.

battery...this thing is wonderful, close to 5 hourse of talk time on this baby. infact my girlfriend fell asleep before the battery died...no phone i ever had could do that. i was duly impressed. of course if you use the web features and camera features frequently battery life decrease rapidly.

call quality...assuming you live in an area that has Sprint service then you're good to go. excellent reception, at least three bars in the dallas/ft worth area. noice canceling technology sometimes cuts in at the weirdest times. that is annoying, but then so is the boss who calls you ever 5 min for the report that was due yesterday...so maybe not all bad then.

ergonomics...smallest Sprint phone i've seen in awhile. sturdy, smooth and light. although the keypad is kind of oddly shaped. some may like it, some may not.

camera...if you're a camera junking expecting the Madonna and Child to look like original rendition get outta here. for the rest of us, the pictures are of ok quality. nothing to write home about, it could be better but then again it could be a lot worse.

screen...not too bad for a little one. over 200k colors of TFT goodness. except since the phone is small, thus the screen is small, thus the picture of your wife is going to be small and cramped too. but at least you can see the sequins on her dress. screen clarity is a wonderful thing.

thats it boys. after 10 days i returned the purple eyesore to get the sprint a 940, after all, what kind of respectable man would carry a purple phone? however if your a female looking for good camera phone...look no further. until next time

"Only for people near the Cell Towers." on by cmccarle2000

    Pros: excellent features

    Cons: very bad reception

Summary: I liked this model but, as a cell phone, it was useless in my area as it was always searching for a signal. I ended up taking it back and getting the Sanyo 8300 and I have good reception now. In areas that have a SprintPCS tower near by, the phone was excellent but, My nearest tower is about 4 miles away and I just could not get this phone to pick up any signal. If this phone had better reception then I would have given it a 10.

"Versatile, sturdy phone with minimal flaws" on by NUNick06

Pros: Great reception, high-quality camera, internal antenna, noise reduction technology, curved keypad, dedicated camera button, colorful screen, sturdy build

Cons: awkward speakerphone, too small for some hands, no pre-loaded games

Summary: For a while I was debating between this phone and the sanyo 8300, as many people have since they are the two best in that price range for sprint. The Sprint rep wasn't familiar with this phone and recommended the sanyo, but I stuck with it and for the most part I've been completely happy. The user interface is friendly and it is constructed well.

    Pros:
*Great reception. First and foremost, this was what I was looking for in a PHONE. I was somewhat wary in sticking with Sprint since my old phone was so poor but I realized it was really because I had an old-generation phone. They didn't sacrifice signal quality with the internal antenna, because I have at least 3 bars 99% of the time. The store rep told me her Sanyo 8300 got the best reception she ever had, but I imagine it's on par with the Samsung.
*Good quality, 1.2 MP camera placed well on top of clamshell with dedicated button on the side. For those wanting higher quality, quit griping--this is great for anything less than would require a digicam.
*Internal antenna--good slim design, much smaller and less stubby than the Sanyo, fits right in my pocket no problem
*Noise reduction technology--a lot of people dislike this but I've found the engineering produced a helpful feature. I've only had one call--ironically, with Sprint tech support--during which the person's speech was clipped.
*True-color crisp screen--love the images, I can DL my own pics with great quality
*Sturdy build--many phones with all these bells and whistle have a shoddy design, especially the slide phones, but this one is built well
    *Large phone book--500 entries
*Battery life is generally good. It depends on what features you use. Making only phone calls, it will last up to 3 days; if you make calls and use the web browser exhaustively, it usually needs rechargin after 1 day.

    Cons:
*The biggest flaw of this phone, as everyone has mentioned, is the poor speakerphone. The sound itself is fine; what sucks is how inconvenient it is to access it. No dedicated button--must keep clamshell open, place a call first, then access speakerphone form menu. But considering all the other pros, it's a minor drawback.
*For some, this phone may actually be too small for some larger hands. If my hands were any bigger, I would've returned it. It does have a nice curved keyboard, though, which makes it easy to type without necessarily having the backlight on.
*No pre-loaded games. There's a 60-second trial version of Pac-Man and that's it. Anything else you have to pay for. It'd be nice to have a little more basic entertainment bundled on a multi-media phone.
*Unreliable IM service--I've used the AIM feature multiple times, and rarely do I get connected on the first try, nor does it ever seem to remember my username/password.
*No cover for transfer port. The main reason I complain about this is that my old Spring phone had the same problem, and after a while it got corroded, and when that one (was a piece of s*%! in the first place) died I had no way of transferring my numbers since Sprint phones are CDMA (meaning no SIM card).

And for those men whining about the slight lavender-metallic hue, you need to get comfortable with your sexuality. It's actually quite stylish and actually is barely noticeable unless you view it up close.

There you go. Stick with this phone--for the price range, you can't really go wrong.
