"MMA940 is Phenomenal, great as an everyday phone loaded with features."
Pros: Awesome signal strength and call sound quality. 2.0 Mega-pixel camera with a vibrant view screen. A backlit keypad for easy low light viewing.
Cons: Does not come with a carrying case; however, there are aftermarket ones for sale.
Summary: This phone is loaded with features that would be to numerous to list on this site so feel free to check out the Sprint site; see below for url.
Camera: The camera on this phone is amazing and takes great pictures. I wanted to post this for users who have reported that this camera phone takes blurry pictures. I have found that by adjusting the shutter speed of the camera you can greatly improve the pictures quality. To do this you will need to put the phone into picture taking mode by flipping the main LCD screen to the side. Once the camera has loaded you will notice an ?options? menu at the bottom right hand side of the screen; to access this you will need to push the button the on the side of the phone that looks like it has three ?dots? on it. This will take you to another menu that will run along the bottom of the screen; you can use the ?volume up/ down? button to navigate through the many options. You will need to choose the ?picture mode? option and select ?auto.? There are many other options to choose from; however, I have found that this gives the clearest shot for everyday shooting as it seems to have the fastest shutter speed. I do suggest trying some of the other options under ?picture mode? as you may find one that works better.
Contacts, ring-tones and image formats: This phone can hold up to 500 contacts along with a personal ring-tone and picture for each. The phone allows you to use .wav files as ring-tones; you can transfer these to your phone via SMS messaging or using the blue-tooth transfer option. The aforementioned ability is great considering it gives the end user the ability to truly customize their phone to the exact specifications that they want regarding their personal ringer! The phone does support many other formats for sound; .wav is just the format that I have found most useful. You can also upload pictures via the same method as the ring-tones. This phone supports many formats to include .gif, .jpg and .bmp to name a few. All of these formats can be used and set as your background again, giving the end user the ability to truly customize.
Battery: The battery is strong and talk \ standby time is great. I have seen users report around 4 hours continuous talk time without having to recharge. This listed time is likely to be the limit until complete battery failure. Personally, I have not had any problem with the phone heating up during long periods or with needing to recharge constantly.
Signal / reception: The signal strength is great however, I did notice a slight degradation in signal if you placed a finger over the internal antenna housing during conversations. The likely cause of this is the internal antenna being blocked and can be negated by holding the phone in the correct position in the palm of your hand.
Ergonomics: The phone sits comfortably in your hand and does not seem flimsy like other flip type phone may tend to be. As with all flip phones you still need to be wary not to apply too much pressure to the phone earpiece when it is open, as you would not want to damage it.
Incoming and outgoing voice quality is excellent; callers do not complain of background noise and I do not have a problem hearing the caller.
Voice options: The voice dial function is awesome; this voice recognition software installed on this phone is definitely top-of-the-line! It recognizes everything I have stored in it on the first time. I have tried another brand by Phonix voice recognition systems and this, with all respect intended, beats them hands down.
Overall: I have only touched on a few of the many functions that this phone has and is capable of doing. For the users out there who have rated a lower rating due to picture quality please try out my suggestion in changing the shutter speed. That has fixed my problem and I am more than pleased with my purchase! As I stated in opening, ?This phone is loaded with features that would be to numerous to list on this site,? so please if you are interested check it out via the Sprint site or any other forum. So far, I have truly found that CNET is the most informative when it comes to up-to-date information regarding new technical devices and true, honest user opinions.
