"Clamshell with QWERTY Keyboard: Some Risk, High Reward" on by amarrao
Pros: Thin and Light;
Full Keyboard with good tactile Key Feedback;
1.3 MegaPixel Camera;
Music Player;
etc...
[Look up the extensive feature list for the rest]Cons: Hinge seems sturdy, but, like any other dual-flip phone, its limits are unknown until it receives just a little too much stress, and breaks
Summary: If you can commit to taking care of this phone [making sure the hinge doesn't receive undue stress], this phone is WELL WORTH IT.
For somebody like me, who will only buy clamshells, but also needs a full keyboard, that commitment was easy to accept. -
"Great phone & texting device, falls short elsewhere." on by wazzledoozle
Pros: Slim, lightweight design. Dual-hinge design works great, feels very sturdy.
Keyboard is arranged well, easy to use.
Screen is bright with good colors.
Camera takes decent pictures even with low lighting (big plus)
Call quality is great.Cons: This phone has neither a 3.5mm headphone jack nor stereo bluetooth, which makes it useless as an mp3 player. It also doesnt support microSDHC, so 2gb is the max storage.
Interface is slow, poorly designed, and inconsistent. Vcast is a gimmick.Summary: This is a great phone and texting powerhouse, along with a decent camera. If this is all you need in a phone, I would highly recommend it.
If you want to use your phone for any sort of entertainment, look elsewhere. This phone requires an adapter to use a 2.5mm headset, and the dongle doesn't have a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. This, combined with the lack of Stereo Bluetooth makes this phone completely useless for music. The media player is also a joke, slow and unresponsive.
Web browsing is decent for WAP sites, but Verizon doesn't offer any reasonable data plans as of now for feature phones. You will pay $1.99/Mb to browse the web with any nationwide calling plan, which makes the otherwise decent browser completely useless.
In short, this phone is a great piece of hardware with great potential. Unfortunately, Verizon has crippled it with their standardized (horrid) interface and Vcast lock-in.
P.S., Verizon still wont let you send anything other than your name card over bluetooth. Forget sharing pics, ringtones, or anything else with your friends. -
"Excellent phone... If you get one that isn't glitched" on by venik1977
Pros: I had this phone (in black) for 16 months (originally in black) and was almost totally pleased with every feature that made me decide on it to begin with.
Cons: doesn't swim well
Summary: It's a great phone, but if you ever drop it in water, don't even think about letting Asurion send you a refurbished piece of garbage. I got a refurb the first time which died on a regular basis(randomly crashed-rebooted-crashed again for a week), insisted that they send me a new one the second time(in silver) and had the same problem starting two weeks after receiving it. I now use an EnV2 and don't regret any of the HOURS I had to spend on the phone with dolts from Verizon to make them realize that the new batch of phones from China SUCK and I needed a free upgrade(The original sch-u740 manufacturing plant was in Korea, I knew about 10 people with phones from there in 2007 and only one had any problems... after dropping her phone in water... Everyone I've known to get one since summer of 08 has traded it in or gotten a free replacement for manufacturer defects)

"Best phone I've seen. Ever. STILL no other phones that I would trade this for." on by kaptainzero
Pros: About once or twice every month I find out a new feature on this thing.
Cons: Buttons are a bit small for most people. That's it.
Summary: This phone is amazing. If you don't like it then you just completely suck at using it and shouldn't be allowed near technology. The flip screen is amazing. Every time I pull out this sucker someone nearby asks to hold it and play with it. If I ever get really bored on a trip or something, there's this feature where you can dictate into the phone and it seems to have a mind of its own, sometimes making up completely wrong sentances. If you calibrate it to your voice and do it the right way it works, but it's basically in beta and is the only phone of Verizon's that has it. You can set it up to when you recieve a text message you can simply read it on the front screen, using the volume buttons to scroll. I'm just gonna stop there because I'll be here all day typing if I went over everything.

"Powerful but unstable phone" on by fng62
Pros: Compact enough to go into your pocket but big enough to have the awesome qwerty keypad. Samsung did a nice job with this phone. Verizon just locked out to many features.
Cons: Unstable with age. I have had this phone into the Verizon store many times and it keeps rebooting itself. Nearing my 2 yrs with it and ready to let go. Verizon insists on doing their manual reboot. and that just causes me to have more billing issues!
Summary: Skip it. If you are going to pay more than $50.00 USD for this model then do yourself an favor and move past it to another phone rated better.... It truly is a great phone but my exp with it has proven that Verizon messed it up with their firmware and blocking the awesome capability of this Samsung device. I plan to move to a blackberry in the near future. I recommend researching the different blackberry's over this phone. sure it is a touch more costly but doing so will only take away from the headache Verizon created. I do enjoy Verizon i am not anti-Verizon in anyway. I just feel they take away from their phones abilities in a big way!
