"Good phone, but useless with Apple Macs - a pity" on by garethr2
Pros: Great shape, design, works well
Cons: No Mac interface, not even Bluetooth works with Mac
Summary: I've reluctantly switched back to Sony Ericsson (before this I had a 750i) and gone for the new 800i. I have over 400 contacts that I didn't want to re-enter all over again into the Samsung, so the lack of interactivity with my Powerbook - for Calendar too - makes it hopeless to use. I'd assumed i'd get by with Bluetooth, but even with full disclosure, the two don't recognise each other. A pity, because it's ideally thin and light-weight. While in the shop deciding, another SGH900 owner wh'd had his for over a month brought it in for exchange because the headphone socket into the Samsung (v. small and fiddly, possibly fragile) had broken. This had also happened to his samsung lead to connect the phone to his PC.

"Excellent phone" on by robo5190
Pros: Quality construction, excellent interface, good battery life, excellent call quality
Cons: Hard to play certain selections of tracks off of a memory card
Summary: This is by the best phone I have ever had. I've always thought Sony Ericsson had the best designs but this phone proved me wrong. And at about $300 or so unlocked, its not terribly expensive either.
Battery life tends to be around 4 or 5 days of normal usage (i.e. about 30 mins of talk a day plus text messages and listening to music)
Call quality is excellent and I've had many people remark on how clear my new phone sounded.
The interface to this phone is well thought out and executed and it is really easy to operate the phone. The keypad could stand to be a little bigger, but I don't think its as big a deal as the cnet guy does. But maybe for those of you with big fingers it could pose a problem.
My only major problem with this phone, and i say major because there are practically no other problems to speak of, is that the mp3 player is not designed as well as it could have been. It sounds great although i think it is let down by the bundled headphones. It isn't easy to play songs by selecting their artist or album or genre, and so it is necessary to manually select tracks and add them to built in playlists. That can be a little tedious.
The screen is excellent and shows text clearly. The 3mp camera is excellent and nearly on par with my neighbors Sony Ericsson k790. Much better than my old 2 mp canon digital camera.
This phone is really slim and I've had many people admire it. The screen does attract fingerprints and grease, but a quick wipe gets rid of that and returns it to its pristine finish. The screen also is quite good at repelling scratches. I've had the phone for 2 months now and I have yet to have even a minor surface scratch on the phones screen or body. It could be a little easier to slide and the raise thumb grip is kind of useless. There are other ways around this and I found this problem to inconsequential.
World phone support is also a plus, but not essential for all users. I however have recently moved to Australia so it was a must for me. The phone works seamlessly with Vodafone down here.
So as a recap, for those who have forgotten what I said at the beginning, or for the others who saw how long my review is and decided to skip to the last paragraph, this phone is awesome and despite a few minor glitches is the best phone I have ever owned.
And its pretty damn sexy too. -
"WOW...simply amazing!!! The most complete phone ever made!!!" on by persianstud34
Pros: TINY for all the features is it jam-packed with...SO SLIM it can easily fit in your front jeans pocket (I have to double check sometimes to make sure it is still there!!!)features, stylish, ease of us
Cons: not sure I can say anything BAD about the phone...I have had it for about a month and have yet to have a complaint...
Summary: the phone is just a quality piece of work all around!!! it will truly make you LAUGH at the Motorola razr and RIDICULE the LG "chocolate" as they will not even compare to this sleek, beautiful, stylish and feature packed phone!
is it possible to have gotten just about everything right??? yes I think this phone is THE closest thing to perfection I have ever witnessed...
the one "flaw" that CNET found about the lower row of keys being too far deep in that groove is not really an issue at all...you don't even need to push the button unless you are entering a new phone number to store into your phone...I almost never even slide the phone open (as you can set it so you can talk with it slid shut)...
one of the best things about the phone was that you can customize almost every feature on the damn thing! everything from slide sounds/fxns, key tones, ring tones, back grounds, you can redirect calls, have a barred list...its just amazing...
also it has a "mobile tracker" function in case it is stolen...which automatically senses a foreign sim card inserted into it and text messages your family/friends (list of up to 20 people which you chose yourself) and tells them the phone number of the person who now has your phone!!!
of that doesn't impress you then I don't know what will... -
