"This phone is just fine. Good for starters." on by albano_zapata

    Pros: Sound quality is good.
Bluetooth works just fine when answering phone calls.
I like that I can use the keypad to browse to the menus.
I like the color and the keypad.
    takes 2G microSD cards

Cons: MEDIA PLAYER cannot run minimized, you cannot sort the songs, cannot play music on mono bluetooths.
Still camera -> your target has to hold really still
It does warm up a little bit while charging the battery.
    Unable to customize navigation keys.

    Summary: The Good:
The functionalities of a cellphone (making calls, answering calls, texting, voice mail, saving contacts) are good. The look and feel is also good. It feels good in your hand. I like the fact that I can navigate the menu with the keypad. On some other phones you have to use the navigation keys only. The bluetooth functionality is good, when making outbound/inbound calls. The same when transferring files from phone to phone via bluetooth.

Speaker phone is acceptable. The same when listening to music. I like the "airplane" mode option while on board of an aircraft.

WI-FI is good, though I haven't been able to test it yet.

    The Bad
    MUSIC PLAYER
-You cannot run it in minimized mode. So if you get out of the Music Player, you stop listening to music.
-You can only use 10 pre-set playlists. You cannot add anymore (I haven't been able to figure out how to add more). If you name your files say, "01-song01.mp3", it will sort them from high to low in the playlist. If you add the files manually, then you can have them in the order you want (what a hassle).
-You cannot play music on your mono bluetooth, the device will only recognize stereo bluetooth to play your music there.
It will not display the mp3 tag information, just the file name (say 01 - my song.mp3).

    ALARM
When the phone is in vibration mode, it will still play the alarm melody. I would prefer the phone to vibrate only.

    CAMERA
The picture quality is acceptable for a cellphone. However, make sure your subject doesn't move when taking a picture. If your subject moves, the picture will look fuzzy. Also, there's a delay when taking the picture. You would think that the picture was taken, but it was not. So your subject better no move.

    BATTERY COVER
It is a hassle to remove the battery cover. Sometimes you think that you kind of broke it.

It is a hassle to remove the SIM card. Do I have to use plyers to do this?

    DISPLAY SETTINGS
    Unable to configure screen savers
Unable to configure external display either.

I'll be posting some more reviews for this phone so you can decide whether this device is for you or not. Stay tuned. (3 stars).

"Like this Phone!" on by TechGirl01

Pros: It's easy to use and has great features.

Cons: So far, there isn't anything I don't like about it. I've always had good luck with any of my Samsung cell phnes

Summary: I think, so far, this is a great cell phone. It has a very clear screen and god sound quality. It's easy to use and the keys aren't too tiny to type on. I got this phone as a free upgrade to my T-Mobile account and I think with WIFI, camera, video, text and picture messaging and other features, it's terrific.

"Awesome basic phone" on by madhurya

Pros: Fast, Inexpensive, Hotspot@Home, Style, Buttons

    Cons: None found yet

Summary: This is an excellent phone for the intended audience. I got fed up with the sluggish performance of my WinMo phone (for those thinking that I might not be using it right, FYI that I am a software professional and know the nitty gritty details of how to make my gadgets work best) and decided to go back to the basics. And this phone performs great for that purpose, of being just a phone.

Wow, what a relief. First thing I notice after the transition was the SPEED. WinMo is ******** sluggish in being a phone. Takes 2 seconds to just bring the dialer up. Takes 1 min to boot. On the contrary, this phone performs great and saves me time on every operation I perform.

LG has done a great job of integrating WiFi into a basic phone without complicating the software too much. Setup was a breeze and call quality is excellent on both WiFi calls and cell calls. Unlike the CNet editor, I did not find the volume to be "too low". In fact, it's perfect. And "overly bright screen"! Oh common CNet. It seems you're just trying to find faults in this phone.

The keys are great and I like typing on them. I downloaded the PC Studio software from Samsung website and was able to sync my outlook contacts, address book, notes and calendar over bluetooth. Perfect. I also transferred some ringtones from my computer to the phone over bluetooh. Works like charm.

Only problem I've faced until now is while driving. I've synced my phone to my car and while the built in bluetooth headset of my car works great initially, it times out after a while and then I have to restart bluetooth on the phone for it to pair again. Haven't found the solution to that yet. Hadn't had this problem on my WinMo phone.

The bottom line is, this phone is PERFECT if you want an easy to use basic phone (with modern facilities such as bluetooth sync, A2DP etc.) and also suffer "no signal at home" problem and are interested in the T-Mobile Hotspot@Home service.

"Good if you like basic phones" on by phonefetish

Pros: I thought it had excellent volume quality for the speakerphone and talking regularly. It has 6 hours of battery life and its very easy to use.

Cons: I wasn't able to change the navigation keys so the right button will always be for tzones and the left will always be for menu.

Summary: Keeping in mind I prefer a basic phone over one with a lot going on, I think this is a very good phone. This is also my first Samsung phone. I normally use Nokia. The sound quality is good and it has all the basic things I need like an alarm clock, calendar, and speakerphone.

The camera and video quality are horrible. There may as well not even be a camcorder because you can't clearly see what you recordered. The camera has a horrible lag so unless what you're looking at is 100% still and you don't move at all...not even a teeny bit, your photo won't come out clear. Just blurry.

I like how the buttons are big and the phone is light weight. I also like that it has a fairly strong vibrate. I like that the ringer gets pretty loud as well.

There aren't many wallpapers to choose from but I'll end up using my own photos anyway.

Another thing is you can use your voice notes as ringtones so you can record your own ringtones if you want. I haven't seen that since the Nokia 3220. I also like that I could synch my phonebook online on MyTmobile. I'm not signed up for Hotspot at home but I do have Tmobile at home. I tried to use my phone using Wi-Fi and it worked just fine. If I ever do choose to do hotspot at home, I know I won't have any problems.

Basically if you're looking for something simple, this is a wonderful phone to get. I'm really big on battery life and since Nokia is slacking on that now, I had to switch to Samsung and even thought about Motorola which I vowed to never use again. I hope Nokia steps it up. Frills are cool, but I'd like to use my phone longer than 2 seconds without having to recharge it.

    Updated
I originally gave this a 7/10 but now I'd have to give it a 5/10. I'm going to take it back and get the Nokia 6301 instead. The reason I'm taking it back is because there are little things that I found odd...or maybe I'm so used to Nokia's. This is a flip phone but if you use the speakerphone you can't close it otherwise it will hang up the call. You can close it if you use a blue tooth headset though. I'm not used to that. Also, the front display doesn't stay on very long and there is no way to change that. I called Samsung after Tmobile couldn't figure it out. They said it was to save batter life. I would have at least liked to have the option to keep the front display on for a while longer. Even if they could at least display the clock and the icons if there is a missed call or new message. The alarm clocks were nice because you have the option to set 4 different ones for different days and times.

I miss Nokia phones already. I'm not thrilled about the 3 hour battery life for the Nokia 6301 over this 6.5 hour battery life with this phone, but at least I'd have all the good qualities of a nokia again.
