"Unacceptable" on by Nancy E. Vogee

    Pros: nice looking

    Cons: looks are deceiving

Summary: Did not perform as stated. Dropped calls all the time.Had 3 different T409 phones and no luck even though I made many calls to 611 and went to our Tmoble store who would refer me back to 611. I was ready for our mental hospital as I could not talk to anyone without dropping off and that was real frustrating. Finally after pleading insanity I was sent a different phone. So far my Nokia is doing better.

"It works fine as a phone" on by snidely9447

Pros: voice quality, easy to read large icons and print on screen

Cons: Inability to customize menu and screen and soft keys, No voice dialing

Summary: We got the Nokia 6086 the day T-Mobile released their UMA wifi service the end of June. It worked fine, but like others have posted on other sites, couldn't use it w. BlueTooth when in wifi mode.
The T-409 seems to work fine. However, it lacks a few basics like voice dialing, and basic menu customization
I've only had it a few days. I don't rate phones by their ability to play music or take pictures.
Unlike the quad band Nokia, this is only a tri-band.
BTW, T-M's wifi service works great. Have used 2500 plus minutes, mostly in prime time.

"Nice concept, but does it really work?" on by kathfra

    Pros: Nice phone, good features

Cons: Wi-Fi doesn't work that good, wait till T-Mobile gets it right

Summary: I was the first kid on the block to sign up for T-Moble Wi-Fi. For starters, I live in the Seattle area, right smack dab in the middle of suburbia, I have very poor cell phone service, not just from T-Mobile but from all the carriers. When T-Mobile came out with there Wi-Fi system I got really excited, so I bought there first generation phone, the Samsung T709. Well that phone was ok for a basic phone. The Wi-Fi system was paired-up with a D-Link Router, I wasn't sure which one was causing my phone to keep switching back and forth from Wi-Fi to T-Mobile, but when it did switch back, the call would drop, not good. So much to my surprise I came home from work last week and there on my door step was two brand new Samsung T409 phones sitting there, one for me and one for my wife. They explained in there letter that I was such a good T-Mobile customer that they wanted to give me two new phones, ok I thought lets give it a try. The T409 has bluetooth the 709 didn't, I was excited right off the bat. My next thought was, "I bet my Wi-Fi will work better now", well it is a little bit early to tell, but so far it keeps going back and forth from Wi-Fi to T-Moble, in other words from 5 bars to 1 bar. I now have to look into the D-Link router and see if maybe thats the problem. I will wright another review in a month or so, next time it won't be so long. My rating is for the Wi-Fi service, which this is what the phone is all about, as far as the phone I'd give it an 8.

"Good phone;HotSpot@Home is the big plus." on by sgg

Pros: Good phone; great, great customer/technical service; Hot Spot @ Home terrific but needs extra access points to be incredible. Dropped calls a problem with one of two SGH-T409 phones, not the other -my calling costs fell!!!.

Cons: Range on router in HotSpot not as advertised;software not intuitive-suspect it would be poor phone for messaging.

Summary: I've said above what I think;good home phone,be prepared to add an access point or two to your home set-up,be sure you have T-Mobile 3 bar coverage in your area;expect dazzling customer service. This HotSpot@Home came out when IPhone did, maybe same week; in my view,T-Mobile with this phone and HotSpot did more people service by this effort - and created infinitely more real value - than Jobs ever did. I eliminated two land lines and I'm not done.

"Not Too Flashy, but freezes" on by gregMacaulay

Pros: No fancy stuff, very easy to use, attractive, thin, fast wifi action

Cons: freezes a lot, call quality bad, picture quality horrible, can't send files via bluetooth, bad battery time.

Summary: i have to charge it everyday. i have to restart my phone after every call. this is my third one and every single one froze up on me, and i use my phone way too much to restart every time. i would save up for the blackberry @home phone.
