"Great Phone & Functionality: Computer Software Great: Poor Battery Life However"

by uneqstylez on January 6, 2006

Pros: Great Interface, Large Crisp Screen (Vivid Graphics & Color), Great Software to Connect with Computer, MP3 Player is Nice, Super Lite-Weight

Cons: Batter-Life is Poor (get a car charger), Feels (slightly) Fragile, Volume is (slightly) Low, The T9 Text Input is Not the Greatest, NO FLASH for the Camera

Summary: I just recently picked up the T809 and I have had it for about 5 days already. The phone is great overall and it's been an appealing coversational piece around my friends. Reception is pretty good. The color and vibrant graphics on the interface menus are awesome. I absolutely love the programs (come bundled with the unit on CD-Rom), USB Cable, Headphones (for Music and for making calls), and the removable Trans-Flash memory card that come with the phone. I have over 500 contacts and the ability to sync your contacts with your computer and back-up your phone book is a key feature for me.You can even enter in your contacts from your computer directly into the phone when you have it connected with that software. Good for those who are switching phones and having to re-enter all your contacts. I noticed that although you can put MP3 songs to listen to but I guess for money making reasons, Samsung & Tmobile disabled the abiltiy to set the MP3 songs as ringtones (so you can download and pay for them). However, I did find a way around that from an online forum. So I'm extremely happy that I can make my own good quality ringtones from my MP3s (if there's a will, there's a way..LOL) and put them on my phone. I also made a bunch of my own wallpapers with a combination of Photoshop and the programs that come with the phone. The phone's housing seems a bit fragile. I wish that they would have used a stronger metal-like finish such as the Moto RAZR instead of plastic. But with the features that this phone comes with, it more than compensates for that (just have to be careful). In the car or on a windy day, I found it difficult to hear my conversations even with the volume set at max. The navigation button on the front of the phone is a bit cumbersome. The speakers are great for it's small size to listen to some music. I love the music skin for the MP3 player (resembles Windows Media Player). The battery life is extremely poor. I recomend that you get a car charger if you'll be using your phone a lot. Good thing that the USB cable charges the phone at the same time when pluged in to your laptop or computer. Haven't tried the bluetooth yet, I'm waiting for my new bluetooth headset I just won on ebay. I liked the T9 input on my old Motorola phone better because it automatically saves and remembers the most frequently used words from the selections and uses it as your primary. The Samsung doesn't. You have to scroll through them each and every time, even if you enter it in the memory as new words. The alarm doesn't have a snooze!!! I used my old phone's alarm in lieu of an alarm clock, and that was important. On another note, this is my first slider phone, so having the screen exposed in my pocket gives me some concern of stractching. I bought a screen protector from EB Games for 5.99 that is meant for a Sony PSP. I've seen many differnt films/screen protectors, and they have the most transparent and good quality. Meaning once you cut it to size, place it on carefully, push out the bubbles, you cannot see it at all. It also comes with a wipe-cloth to wipe off your fingerprints and greece left from your face LOL... The camera shoots great quality images with all kind of shooting modes (ie. sepia, b&w, etc.).. too bad there's no flash though! Bottom-Line, phone is great and I have no regrets on picking up this phone. I would recommend it!
