"Nice compact phone, has issues" on by wild98
Pros: size, lots of great features like AIM/ICQ
Cons: cannot open one-handed, headset problems
Summary: I've had my x427m for about 6 months and just had my second replacement sent to me by Cingular. The 'universal' hands free headset jack is broken on all of them so far, and I've tried a headset from Plantronics and Motorola in all 3 phones... the one I got in today is having the same problem so it's going back too.
The design of the phone is slick, there are plenty of features to love, and I enjoy the color screen, but it's difficult to open with one hand when I'm driving, and my commute is unsafe without a hands free headset jack that works.
I also found with my first model that once I set up my phone to use ICQ that I no longer had the ability to go back and select AIM instead (I use both services).
Admittedly, I've dropped the phone a few times (who doesn't) and every single time, the battery falls off.
Now the good stuff: the screen is crisp and clear, and the animated wallpapers that ship with the firmware are pleasant enough for me. There's a decent assortment of ringtones that ship, and I've always been partial to the old analog telephone ring, or 'ring 2' as Cingular calls it. The vibra-melody setting is nice - since I can't always hear the phone ring in the car with the stereo on, I close the clamshell around my seatbelt on my chest so I can feel it vibrate - even on maximum volume it's difficult to hear in the car at 60+mph with either the windows down or the radio on.
I enjoy the T9 editing, even though many people don't. Having my phonebook on the SIM card is nice too for all of these replacements they're sending...
However, despite the good features of this phone, the bad headset port on 3 of the phones so far, the fact that the battery falls off far too easily, and the volume of the ringer, my next call to Cingular will be to ask for a credit to exchange the phone for a different model. -
"I love my Samsung X-427" on by Sheryl_Driskill
Pros: Great Battery Life; Lots of Accessibility Options
Cons: Sometimes (as with any phone) the call isn't clear the first time so you have to call back
Summary: I absolutely love my phone. I got it in June of 04 and it still works really well. It's been dropped, handled with wet hands and talked on quite a bit. The ringers aren't entirely creative but it allows you to group your names in your address book and designate ringtones. I have a ringer for my family, another for close friends, another "do not answer" and the main ringer for everyone else. Considering this phone was free I'd say I got a great deal.

"Great basic phone" on by hugeelvis
Pros: Small size - excellent reception
Cons: Hard to see screen in direct sunlight
Summary: Great phone. Nothing fancy, but if you need a small phone that works well, get it. I get excellent reception and often can talk when none of my friends can even get a signal.
I wanted a small phone that worked. If you use your phone for making phone calls, you will like it. -
"ok but nothing special" on by sbcopr

"Low Hearing Volume, 2 Warranty Claims in 8 Months" on by amberd910
Pros: Sleek Design/Good Battery Life
Cons: Low Hearing Volume, Bad Ringtones, Dropped Calls
Summary: My boyfriend and I had this phone. Both of us had to do 2 warranty exchanges (each)because of "No Service Dropped Calls". When talking to Cingular they said my street (and town) has great coverage and that it is the phone. We would be on a call (still, not moving) and the phone would drop the call. Then the phone would instantly go back to full service (4-5 bars). Only with this phone have I had problems. Also, there is very low listening volume so if you have trouble hearing or are in a loud area don't expect too much. There is barely a selection of ringtones. They have maybe 10 and an example of them are a cat meowing and birds chirping! Also, this phone is 2-band so if you travel out of the country you most likely will not be able to use it. This phone doesn't offer much. I am glad to say I have gotten rid of it and moved back to a Motorola. I never had a problem with them. I am not picky when it comes to my phones but honestly with all the problems we both had with the Samsung X427 I do not think I will ever consider purchasing one again. It was more trouble than it's worth. Thanks.
