"This phone is OK"
Pros: internet speed, customizable nav button, black
Cons: thick, so-so design, dropped calls
Summary: ok folks, since i purchased this phone from ebay, i'm basically stuck with it so here's my personal experience with this phone.
this phone is ok. i, like the others think the design is just so-so. plus it's a bit think and heavy.
first, internet access on this phone is fast compared to what i'm used to: a motorola razr and a v551. the navigation button is customizable - l like to have my own items available to me with a quick left, right, up or down on the nav keys.
one user critiqued the fact that the clamshell is sometimes hard to open. well he's right. i do wish there was some indentation on the side that would make it easy to open.
one thing i really hate are the standard ringtones that came with this phone. there are no standard ringers. you need to download a ringer you like. for me, i like the standard telephone ringer. this one doesn't come with that. AND the ringers are a bit on the quiet side. i find myself missing some calls even if the ringer volume is set to max.
texting takes more effort compared to the razr. iow, you need to press many more extra buttons. one annoying thing i found out was the special symbols menu was accessed by pressing the # key for 3 seconds. to find this out, i went and pressed every single key several times to find the underscore i needed. if you enter an e-mail address to the phone's memory, and the address requires an underscore, you're screwed because it's not in the owner's manual.
battery power isn't what i thought it would be being that this phone uses up energy for it's many features. a few phone calls and some internet usage will have you charging every night.
sometimes this phone drops calls in places the razr never did. call quality is ok.
over-all, i give this phone a 7. being used to motorola and nokia all these years, it's hard to get used to samsung.Updated
ok, i've had this phone now more than 2 months. the only way to check out quality is over time. and BOY do I HATE call quality on this phone.
call quality on my Razr was excellent with cingular. this phone drops calls in places the razr never would. in addition, i work in downtown oakland a few short steps from the AT&T building so my signals on the Razr AND the samsung are always very strong. i would get very good reception even in our basement surrounded by thick cement walls. HOWEVER - even the ZX20 would still show 4 bars, calls dropped repeatedly and this really pisses me off, since i spent $300 for this stinkin phone. as i mentioned, i am just a few short steps from the AT&T building. always had strong signals on the razr. i had asked the company we are leasing our copier/printer from to call me re: a tech support issue. needless to say, when the rep called my samsung, in the middle of an important call, the phone dropped this call at least 4 times!
while this phone really as fast as advertised on the internet, call reception SUCKS. another thing that sucks is button/key customization is limited. standard ringers also are limited. if you want your own ring tone, you'll need to download it or put it on a micro SD card.
speaking of the ringer, it's hard to hear even turned all the way up.
i LOWER my rating on this phone to 5 from 7. samsung needs to work on reception quality before putting in the bells and whistles. what good is paying for all of these features if a phone doesn't do the ONE thing you got it for? and that's to make phone calls.
i hate motorola quality and battery life on their phones suck as well but at least reception was never a problem.
if possible, stay away from this phone. look at something else or get a smartphone.
good luck!
