    "Great phone despite menu system"

by mmmmaxheadroom on September 24, 2006

Pros: Reception, bright LCD, features mp3, wma and aac.

Cons: The charger slot / handsfree and memory slot is a PAIN

Summary: Unlike some people, I look for a phone with good reception that is somewhat stylish and feels substantial.

The ringers and wallpaper installed on the phone are pathetic. I like the mp3 player and its capability, however plugging in the charger and hands free is a pain for someone with large hands. This phone has very good reception in my area. The only brand phone I have seen with similar reception is Nokia regardless of model. I like candy bar style phones over flips and sliders do to the fact I have only had one go bad on me, I went through 2 Motorolla's and 1 Sanyo flip in no time.

This phone is easy to handle (however I do have large hands). Buttons have a good tactile feel with nice amber light. Despite the thin set of this phone it does not have that cheap plastic feel of some recent Samsungs (sgh-t809). As a matter of fact I bought this because my old Samsung sph-a460 never died I just fell in hate with my cdma carrier and this Trace has the same solid construction feel of that old samsung. The LCD and backlight are great if you spend time to setup the longer backlight time. I did change the setting for how long the backlight stays on to 30 sec's the 10 second default drove me nuts.

Like I said I have been a Nokia fan and the 3220 I had was like a rock, I dropped and kicked it with a cover on it and it kept on ticking. This phone seems even stronger than that, more like my Nokia 6800, almost metal like.

I need to find a tight case cover but as of today vendors only have the t509 cover and it looks like an ill fitting diaper.
Hint to Samsung, some stereo earbuds for the mp3 player would be nice since your port like Nokia's is proprietary. I feel this phone is a good value especially with the rebates.
    Updated
After spending more quality time with this phone and giving my blue tooth adapter a workout this phone still rocks BUT DOES NOT PLAY WMA AS ADVERTISED! If you music collection is made up of WMA's beware and complain like I did to Samsung and T-mobile.
I have lowered my rating to a seven. simply because this is WRONG!

I don't think it comes with one, but does Samsung even have one that works with the Trace? Or how about adapters that would bridge the standard jack?
