Summary: I have owned several different Sanyo phones over the years and stay with Sprint service largely because of Sanyo high quality equipment. The SCP 7050 is no disappointment. It's rugged, built like a tank. The software and well-thought-out controls make it easy to use. This phone has the best signal strength of any wireless phone I've used since the old bag-phone days, period, bar none. This phone has strong signal and clear reception in areas where I've routinely had dropped calls in the past. The ringers are LOUD! That's important when you get a little older and your hearing starts to fade a bit. The phone is very rugged and well-built. It's suppose to meet some kind of Military Spec. for whatever that's worth, but for me that just means it'll take a licking and keep on ticking. I live in a real world where phones are dropped, bumped, etc. and I don't worry about this one at all; it'll take everyday life (and more) with ease.
One of the other reviews of this phone bemoans the fact that there's no camera... If you want a phone w/ a camera buy one w/ a camera! I've owned several camera phones... they usually produce poor quality pix, why bother? Another review complains that it's big... If you want a slim phone, buy a slim phone! This phone is EXACTLY what I was looking for; superior quality, high durability, excellent reception and signal strength, speaker phone, and bluetooth. -

Summary: Finally a phone that can punch through when your in a bad signal area!!!!!! I'm offten in areas with less than desirable signal quality and this phone still gets through... I have had six different phones and 4 different carriers in the last month and this is undoubtedly the best. It doesn't have an MP3 player and there is no camera.....and guess what, who cares. "Phones" that have all the "extras" forget to take care of the basics. It's nice for once to see a company (Sanyo) willing to just build a quality product for people who aren't trying to make a fashion statement with their phone.

Summary: For me this phone is just about ideal. I tend to drop phones often. This phone is solidly constructed and encased in hard rubber. I've dropped it already and no harm done. The hinge mechanism feels solid. The phone has a nice weight to it.
I use cell phones as phones. I mean that I use them to talk to others. I'm not into texting and I don't care about cameras, mp3 players, surfing the Internet, or watching videos on my phone. So, that being said, this phone delivers the goods on voice quality from the handset earpiece. It's clear, the signal is strong even in areas where my other phones have been weak. The speaker is excellent. It's easy to hear the person on the other end and the other person doesn't seem to notice that they are on speaker.
The buttons and controls on the phone are ideally configured for me. I have big fingers and the raised, larger, buttons make this phone easy to operate for me.
One drawback to this phone is that using a bluetooth headset could be more clear sounding. It's better once you download the latest v1.2 software that promises to fix some glitches in the bluetooth software of the phone.
Also, the price is outrageous. The phone is a good quality phone and yet $299 seems to be about $100 too high for such a simple phone. The construction is solid and it's a good quality design and yet, it seems a bit pricey to me.
All in all, an excellent phone for those of us who are hard on our cell phones who want a simple phone that does what a phone should do, deliver quality sound both for you and the other person on the other end. If you want extra bells and whistles this phone is not for you. -

Pros: Best feature is its dependable reception, long battery life if you charge it properly to begin with, easy to hold on to, durable
Cons: No camera, but not everyone cares
Summary: As a Sprint customer I have been used to missing calls due to weak signals. However with this phone even in a building with a metal roof the call comes in loud and clear. If dependability is your main need in a cell phone, you will be pleased with the Sanyo 7050.

Pros: Signal strength, solid feel in hand, keypad buttons, battery life, loud ringer, loud earpiece
Cons: Bulky, external screen settings defect, no color on external screen
Summary: The Sanyo 7050 is the best cell phone I ever had. I had to return my first one because I mistakenly kept plugging the charger into the earpiece, when it actually had to go into a hidden compartment at the bottom of the phone.
The battery life is long. The ringers are loud. I can hear everyone that calls loud and clear. People cant tell I'm using a cell phone.
The signal strength is the best. I had to return a couple phones earlier(both Sprint & Verizon) because they had no external antenna. I wasn't able to make phones from by basemnet or even from the first floor.
With the Sanyo 7050 I can easily make and receive calls from my basement.
I love the keypad buttons. They are similar to the buttons on the Motorola Timeport & Startac.
I purchased this phone knowing it had no camera or fancy gizmos; however, it would have been nice to have a 2.0 mexapixel camera.
The Sanyo 7050 is a very large and bulky phone that will definetely show if you place it in your pockets.
There is no color on the outside display.
My main problem with the phone is that the external screen will go OFF every 5 seconds. When I go into change the settings on the external display, I am only able to CHANGE the setting to either: "ALWAYS ON" or "ON for 5 seconds".
"ALWAYS ON" will drain my battery and "ON for :05 seconds" is not long enough.
Furthermore, the "Dim" setting will only work for 5 seconds.
It would be nice to have an "Always ON Dim" feature.
The external display settings ":10 seconds" and "20 seconds" do not work on my phone and I feel that's a significant defect for a $150 phone.
Bottom line: I love this phone!
