"Greatphone but Watch out what version you get!"
Pros: Screen, Call quality, functions, applications
Cons: Network Covarage
Summary: First let me say this is a great phone. And although I acutally have the K790i version which is unlocked version with slight differece in frequenies used its the same phone.
I wanted to send a buyer beware for those who have considered getting the internation version thats unlocked like mine and are on Cingular. As of this writing you will only get limited network function on the cingular network. No high speed access. I can connec t to medianet but cannot get any edge conection to work and no cingular video stuff. It seems that since this phone does not have the 850 freq which cingular is pushing I cant connect. And although I should be able to still connect using the 1900 freq and edge i'm not.
Just wanted to give a heads up to those considering buying the k790i version online or on ebay and have cingular.
Besides that.. The phone itself rocks. I have never seen a more beautiful screen and phone with more functions. Its a work of art. And the camera is almost as good as a standalone. I'd say as soon as the K790a version is available you have to get this phone. However I've heard that only cingular will have it. Too bad I could not wait and spent the cash on the international version. I hope I can save someone the pains I have gone thru.

If you really want a K790a which operates on 850mhz, they are available on Ebay. These fellows are buying them in Canada where they are available! If you want to check it out, get on Ebay! On some of the listings, I think there are two which on the listing mention Rogers, apparently a wireless company in Canada. On the listing, it says click here for more product information.
That takes you to a Rogers site which gives you all the information, including that it has the 850mhz capacity. I really wouldn't go to Cingular or AT&T again. I wonder why AT&T doesn't offer it.
Good Luck, it sounds like a nice phone! I bought a Samsung SCH-990a. -
This phone is stated to have a 850MHz reception capability, are you sure it isnt able to recieve 900MHz instead? I am waiting to purchase this phone however, i cannot figure out which frequency is used!

I have the international 3G phone. I bought it for $450 in NYC unlocked and it works with my T-mobile perfectly. It also has the video call camera and such features, even though they dont work in the US if you ever travel you should be able to use it. Perfect phone!

already getting sick of this phone. it gets more coverage than global warming. one day you call SE and they say the k790a hasn't been released, the next person you talk to says it is released but they're probably out of stock. my god if you're going to make a great phone just put it out there for people to buy. why all the drama. the k790i's been out for a while and the k800i looks exactly the same (they both have the added VGA camera for video calling which the k790a doesn't have because for some reason people in this country supposedly aren't interested in) but because as usual the U.S. has to be difficult with everything they do, they have to run a different bandwidth than the rest of the world. if you look up the available phones in asia and europe we are definately being deprived of some quality phones. the reviewers write that americans are just too busy to be interested in phones with all the gadgets and gizmos that the rest of the world has and that's b.s. open up the flood gates and let us have what we rightly deserve. stop mucking everything up with bureaucracy and some carrier pick it up, or don't just stop the charade. what is this microsoft, is bill gates running the global monopoly on cell phones as well.

You are absolutly correct in your review of the K790i! Luckily I did my homework. Eventhough, I must admit I was tempted to purchase the international version on Ebay, the phone was so appealing. I also use Cingular and I found out it would have been a problem due to the lack of 850MHz frequency heavily used by Cingular. On top of that I already have a coverage problem where I live. I am glad I waited; I am now a happy owner of a K790a

Yes Cingular does have a large number of 850 MHZ transmission towers and if you happened to get a Cell Phone that DOES NOT receive 850 MHz you have virtually NO COVERAGE on Cingular! I made the MISTAKE of buying the NOKIA N-90 on ebay and although a Very Sharp Phone it does NOT receive 850 MHz. The Seller WOULD NOT take it back (even though he Indicated that it WOULD work on Cingular Nation wide), so I am STUCK with a Very 'Slick" but Useless Cell Phone. The Bottom Line, If your Carrier is Cingular, make sure you are buying a 'Quadraband' (includes 850MHz) cell phone rather than a 'Triband'!
