"A good product, but could be better" on by veeeru
Pros: Silk smooth navigation
Cons: Far from satisfactory menu
Summary: K790i is a great product with silver smooth navigation, has a great camera which is easy to use. Of course music player and FM radio are standard feature on any decant phone.
A s a die-hard Nokia user till recently,my measure complaints against k790i are as follows:
i) The contact potfolio is very disappointing. U can not mark two telephone nos. under same heading, i.e. if any of ur contact has two mobile phones u can not mark both of them with cellphone symbol.
Again, If u put a coma in any contact entry, it will re-arrange the entry with the word following the coma, which is at times very frustrating in searching for desired contact.
Moreever, under the contact details, u can put only one note pertaining to that contact.
Thus, the K790i's contact menu is nowhere near to easy and very intuitive contact menu available on Nokia Phones.
ii)I could assign speed dial nos. to various keys but could not find ways to dial them inspite of digging hard in the phone menu and also reffering to the written user's guide. (Can someone tell me how to do this?)
iii) Also, I couldn't find very basic feature of voice-recording in K790i !!
iv) Conversation Reception by the dialled number is not upto the mark.
And since these are the main features which I normally use in any cellphone, I find K790i a bit overhyped cellphone.
In fact the only reason I did not purchased Nokia N73me is its looks - Its dual colured keys (Mostly in Black and a few in cheap steel) simply put me off! And I am regretting my decision for not purchasing Nokia N73me -
"Serious and Simple on the outside, Spectacular on the inside, the ultimate big boy toy" on by rizzlehd
Pros: This phone's camera beats all, built well, great mp3 player, loaded features, stylish yet simple exterior design
Cons: A tad bulky for a modern phone, screen vulnerable to fingerprints, scratches (not crazy over candybar designed phones, but this phone is so good it negates that!)
Summary: This phone does not disappoint, with a simple organized user interface, great mp3 music player with Bluetooth stereo capability (means you can plug in a bluetooth stereo headset to listen to your music in high quality stereo, and it's WIRELESS! and take calls when needed to), also has a nice vivid display screen for viewing your every day agendas, calls, and viewing your amazing 3.2 megapixel photos taken by your SONY CYBERSHOT Camera-Phone. With it's memory stick micro slot (M2) you can store up to 1GB (should get bigger size cards in the future) of data, music, videos, pictures. This has proven that Sony Ericsson means business with their line of mobile phones. Having switched from a Motorola Razr it doesn't even come close to the performance and features of this K790. This phone is worth every penny!

"Excellent phone in its cost segment" on by lucksme
Pros: the 3.2 MP camera, 16x zoom, the display clarity, sleek looks, speedy OS, big phonebook, pc suite, excellent sound quality, excellent flash,
Cons: some photos get spliced, earphones keep slipping off my ears, if a person gives 5 missed calls shows time of only last call,
Summary: Love the phone! Will recommend to anybody. But there seems to be a problem in camera. Some of my photos get cut into many pieces and get mixed with pieces of other photos. A friend who has the same phone also has a problem with the camera- if he uses zoom the camera application shuts down.
Other than this, camera features are like a digital camera. you can cover special occassions with the phone alone. My phone is 3 years old and i just can not think of getting rid of it. Not even for a smart phone.
more pros:one touch photo gallery view, shortcuts button, music DJ, Best pic, camera features like a digi cam, durable joystick (3 years and going strong), matte finish body so does not take much scratches, has IR and bluetooth, 2 speakers!
more cons:lens cover scratches easily, can not move from a text message to another- have to come back to inbox, camera cover/placement of lens makes phone rather bulky, prone to scratches n smudges on display -needs screen guard, dont like the earphone and charger connectors, card slot cover opens wierdly- u have to pry it out throwing caution to the winds :)
Regarding Veeru's comments
1. For speed dialing, press the number once and hit call.
2. For voice recording when you are not on a call, go to the entertainment application (the one that has the games) record sound is there..
if you want to record your call, hit menu when on a call and record!
conversation reception is better on mine than a friends smartphone!
Im sure you would have figured these things by now or it may be too late. But, others may find it helpful :) -

"All in One - 3.2MP, IR, BT." on by K S Lokesh
Pros: Sony Brand, Clarity, 3.2MP, Both IR and BT, GPRS, Other Basic Features. Price.
Hot Swap M2 Memory Card.
The best 3.2 MP clarity compared to Nokia and Samsung.Cons: Bulky, Heavy, JoyStick Durability, Projecting Camera Cover.
64MB + up to 2GB only.
Bad WAP, HTML, xHTML etc.
No Video Phone and Webcam option.
Website offers downloads only to registered users,
Phone is Made in China.Summary: K790i is the Starting Level model in 3.2 MP CyberShot Mobile Phone Series. The Phone looks good but is a bit heavy for hand. The phone I have is a Velvet Black color and it gives an Old look for the Phone when seen from a very close distance.
Reasons I purchased this Phone:
1) 3.2 MP Cam: I compared Nokia and Samsung 3.2 Models and found Sony having the Best..
2) Has both IR and BT: Some W series other Series has only BT as many feel IR is getting outdated. But this K790i has both.
3) Hot Swappable memory. No need to remove battery.
3) Sony Brand: We all know that Sony is a Very Reputable Brand on this Earth.
4) Price: Acceptable when compared to Nokia E51 N73 and similar Samsung Phones.
The Phone is packed attractively in a Good quality Box also. Has all the necessary Cables, hands free ear phones, charger, driver and software CD. I would liked it more if It had a 1GB M2 card freely included in it.
Coming to the Cons:
1) Joystick: Many people have complained about the Joystick durability. So I dont know when it will start to malfunction.
2) Projecting Camera Cover: It is projecting a lot and is also not durable. It is a bit delicate and may even break if little force is applied.
3) Expandable memory only upto 2GB. Some phones support upto 8GB.
4) Contacts cannot have 2 similar types of numbers (ie. 2 mobiles or 2 office or 2 home etc)
5) No good support to WAP, HTML, xHTML etc. Nokia has good support.
6) Battery and SIM removal/replacement is a bit difficult. Repeated removal/change of SIM may result in Loose Contact between SIM and its Contacts in its Slot.
7) The Memory Card Slot cover is not so user friendly. We feel as if it will break while opening it.
8) Only 1yr Warranty. Should have offered 3yrs..
9) Has no Stereo loud Speakers..
10) Should have a Webcam feature. Many low quality mobiles offer it but is not present in Sony Phones.
Battery talktime is acceptable. Sound clarity is very good when ear phones are user.
I Really Like this phone and I feel that I have not done a mistake by taking this phone. Excellent camera quality.
