    "Almost perfect a phone even if you are a perfectionist like me."

    by Saurbh Varma on November 11, 2005

    Pros: Read Review

    Cons: Read It Till The End

    Summary: Almost a month since i have been a proud owner of this phone. I this it's a mix of style and good sound quality. I bought

    this phone for around $350. Talking bout Pros and cons. I love the design. i think it's pretty different and sporty types.

    The battery back up is amazing even with the Walkman Switched On. You don't have to open the phone again and again to access

    various things. Everything can be accessed through the buttons on the main face itself. The voice clarity on a call is

    superb. Even the display quality if pretty cool (Clear and sharp). The flash light is powerful enough to help you replace

    your car's tire on a highway, compact enough to fit in our pocket. Amazing sound clarity even with highest volume level with

    top level of BASS.. it gonna below your ears (it has the following EQ Presets: Normal, Bass, Mega Bass, Voice, Treble boost +

    Manual with 5 Band EQ). It has Stereo Widening (effective if u using high quality Mp3. Backlight is Orange. It has detachable

    faces so that you can change it as per your mood ((Orange (default); White (in box); Blue (optional)) Locking and unlocking

    the keypad is very easy. It has a dedicated switch like key on its left for the same. On pressing the shutdown button

    (located at top left) you get option to change the profile making it easier to change profile as per the environment or you

    can put the phone directly on Silent Mode using the # key (which enables the vibration automatically). A dedicated volume

    control on the right using which you may even change the song. You might take a week's time to get use to the interface. A

    dedicated button to switch on the Walkman (on the main interface itself - bottom right) Dedicated button for internt access -

    bottom left.

    The Camera
    It has a dedicated button for camera (on the right side), but please ensure that the phone is closed while when u wanna use

    the camera. It has following Image Sizes available
    160 x 120 -> 4X Digital Zoom;
    640 x 480 -> 2X Digital Zoom;
    1280 x 1024 -> No Zoom.
    You can shoot pictures on the following modes: Normal; Panaroma; Frames; Burst. (Please dont expect me to explain all this...

    Please). You can choose from 4 click sounds when a picture is clicked.
    Video has 2 sizes -> 128 x 96; 176 x 144 with a variable digital zoom of 4X.
    It has night mode with flash light. Trust me it S**KS BIGTIME.
    THE CAMERA S**Ks BIGTIME. IT GIVES TO PICTURES FULL OF NOISE AND AT NIGHT YOU CAN'T CLICK ANYTHING EVEN IF YOU MANAGE TO GET

    A CLIP IT IS SO NOISY THAT YOU DON'T EVEN WANNA SEE IT. I COMPARED MY PHONE PICS WITH MY FRIENDS WHO CARRIES A NOKIA 6600...

    I THINK 6600 ROCKS. (IF U WANNA SEE THE RESULTS LEMME KNOW I'LL EMAIL EM TO YOU)

    You can have an animated wallpaper or static a you like. The in built themes are pretty cool.
    It has 3 games inbuilt: Extreme Air Snowboarding 3D; Gauntlet; Worms Fort 3D. You can change the screen from potrait to

    landscape. It has 2 extra dedicated buttons for gaming (top). i got 46 more, in case if you want it lemme know i'll email 'em

    to you.

    It has a few softwares like VIdeo DJ (Video Editer.. add text, shapes etc to a video), Music DJ (Create your own music),

    Photo DJ (Edit photos, add frames etc). It has 2 inbuilt applications: World Clock and News reader.

    It has a memory capacity of around 230 MB (usable) around 75 songs @ 96 kbps or 50 songs @ 128 (the memory is not extendable

    hence i think they shud have provided with atleast 512 as the default memory). The transfer speed using Blue tooth is max of

    40 KiloBytes Per Second. You can switch between profiles on the press of one button (Power button). All the profiles are

    appropiate to the environment. Default Proifiles: Normal, meeting, In Car, outdoor hansfree home and office.

    Thats all i have the time for right now, if you have any extra queries bout the phone please contact me through my profile.

    i'll ensure that i reply. Hope the article helps you make a choice if this is your 1st SOny phone (like

    me). Also you can request me for the games and other stuff on this email address. I'll try and post a few detailed pics of

    the phone over the net soon. you may request for the same on the same email address. BTW one last thing, the phone comes in

    with a DATA cable around 1.5 m long (USB) to transfer data from PC to phone. YOu can use the phone as a pen drive as well.

    For eg u can transfer zipped files over the bluetooth unlike most other brand phone.Sound quality is better than a ipod.

    Later.. Signing off

    Can you access the pictures you upload to the online album and do you get charged for using it? How can you access the online album from your computer to share or delete the pictures?

    Can ANYONE shed some light on the mystery of why Cingular has suddenly dropped this phone?? It's still on display at my local dealer, but they acted like i was asking for something illicit when i asked for the w600! What gives??

    Saurbh,

    My contract recently ended and my old motorola died so I had to replace it. After searching around a little I came to this website and saw your review, immediately I went to the cingular store and hesitated not one bit on purchasing this phone instead of the SLVR. If you are still willing to send those games and other accesories via e-mail I would be very appreciative. My email is bowen006@gmail.com...thanks again.

    Im currently in the process of buying one now thanks to your review and many others. I was wondering if i could get those games and other things from ya, or just a few of them, however many ya want to send it would be great. Thanks again.

    Ohh, and is there a way to adjust the volume of the keytones, ive only been able to look at the phone in store and i couldnt seem to find it, not really a big deal, just curious if you know, possibly its tied to the ringer volume...

    u said that the camera s**ks bigtime. Are you talking about the Video Camera or the Picture Camera. I have heard that the Picture Camera is very good for a camera phone. Please tell me. Which one is the bad one,or are they both bad?

    I think your review is spot on. A mojor advantage i found is the earphone dual adapter. I plug my cell phone into my bose noise headphones on the plane and actually have used them to make calls for business. I also have a tape deck/cd player in my car and found you can plug your phone mp3 player into the cassette tape converter. You know the one you had 10 years ago for your cd player. It works much better than any of the ipod converters as well...

    i found yr opinion very informative and useful. I am in situation where i have to decide between sony ericsson w600i or motorola razr v3. I am buying a family plan with cingular and have to get 3 instruments. Which one would you recommend?
    Thank you.

    This phone is great but its Sound Recorder is defective and does not record DURING CALLS.When I contacted Sony Ericsson they agreed that Sound Recorder has some issues and offered to 'repair' it. But I am returning this phone back to Cingular.
