"Awesome phone with only a couple flaws." on by pegb856

Pros: Size, fantastic Sony Ericsson interface, good sound quality,

Cons: no auto focus or flash, keypad a bit slippery for someone with long nails.

Summary: I've had this phone for a couple months now and I have to say this is probably the best phone I've used to date, and believe me I've had quite a few (Just ask my family, I'm a self professed gadget junkie!). Anyhow, this is my 2nd Sony Ericsson I positively love their tabbed menu interface. The phone has excellent sound quality both in calls and out. I purchased this phone unlocked off of ebay and setting the internet settings manually on this phone was a breeze, it runs java apps flawlessly compared to most other phones I have used. The built-in browser is one of the best for cell phones and setting up gmail was a breeze and works very well with the built in email application. However you must be sure your provider does not have email blocked. The RSS reader works great also.

I am very picky about the functionality of my phones as I use the organizer and task functions daily. The phone book holds as much data as my PDA does, home & business addresses, etc. It has recurring calendar functions and multiple alarms that you can set one time or recurring. I use the timer as a cooking timer, just stick the phone in my pocket and I know I'll hear the buzzer go off, no need to open the flip to check for time left as it's on the external screen.

Although the external screen is only monochrome it shows all info you could want, caller ID, next alarm set time, clock, signal strength, battery life, bluetooth status, and is a music and radio player screen. The external monchrome screen is blue with white LCD, which makes it very easy to see and the internal color screen is absolutely gorgeous. I just wish the radio had an internal antenna instead of using the headset for the antenna.

I love this phone so much I went out and bought my daughter the Sony Ericsson w300i "Walkman" phone for her birthday, she loves it.

Overall the z710i is a fantastic phone I would recommend to anyone that finds it aesthetically pleasing. It's not the prettiest phone out there but it sure is one of the most functional. I used Moto's for years with LGs, Nokias and Samsungs stuck in there also and in my opinion the Sony Ericssons are by far the superior phones all around.

    Go Getcha One!!

"The next big thing in Cell Phones- Motorola Beware." on by indiansbsa

Pros: Outstanding Looks, Features, and Expandibility!!

Cons: 64 MB Card Only Included- are they kidding?

Summary: Amazing phone, solid video camera, great headphones and music functionality. Reception rock solid as well. Only downside is the 64 MB M2 card included- obviously to make this an ipod killer you will need 1 GB or more, so go with an off-brand like sandisk to save money on that and you'll be good as gold with this hot new phone!!

"Everything you need in 1 package - and it works" on by sin3166

Pros: Excellent features; bluetooth 2.0; excellent battery life; quad band; internal screen is bright and crips

Cons: no controls for external screen (change backlight color or brightness)

Summary: I recently upgraded to this phone from a K700i. This is my first clamshell phone I've owned. It is perfect. All the features you could want in a phone are here, plus more. Not to mention I haven't seen anyone comment on VIDEO playback. There is a built in Video Player on this phone as well and plays many formats. Simply convert a home video, or better yet, entire movie to 3gpp and store it on your 1 GB memory stick micro. Fast internet browsing as well. bluetooth 2.0 also works well and support steaming music and transfer speed is also improved! If you want a phone that does it all, I HIGHLY recommend this one. So what if it doesn't have a camera flash, the 2MP camera is good enough. I would give this phone a 10, but Memory Stick Micro only supports up to 1GB right now (not the phones fault). I haven't had any call quality problems, but I am using the latest software for the phone (you can update the phone's software by using the update feature on the phone, pretty cool too).

"One of the very best" on by urr_quasdim

Pros: Excellent design quality, sharp display, extensive yet easy to use GUI, very good call quality, wide range of Bluetooth functions, IRDA, good PIM capability, EDGE, world phone, good battery life

    Cons: Obsolete voice command method

Summary: Kent German got it right in his review. The only down side is the voice command: you have to say the names for the phone to learn them. This approach has been replaced by automatic voice recognition but S-E still uses the old method. What's worse, even if one tries to record a name in a quiet place, the phone asks for an even quieter location (a grave?). Other than that it is a fantastic phone.

    Updated
In spite of careful usage, those little plastic prongs in the battery door shore off. This door is a bit flimsy and must be treated very carefully. Customer support proved very responsive and a replacement battery cover door is on the way.

"very good phone" on by bingoSK

Pros: nice loooking, mp3 player, 2MP camera, good call quality and many other nice features

    Cons: no song shuffling

Summary: Ive had the phone a month now, and i am quite satisfied, Sony did a great job!
The phone works perfectly, never had any problems with the reception or call volume like my previous motorola... and the 2MP camera takes great photos. The keypad needs some getting-used-to but its easy to understand.

The little disapointements were related to the mp3 player.
First of all, the phone only comes with a 64Mb card so i had to buy a 1Gb M2... and micro M2's are exclusive for sony mobiles(so cant use it on most electronics) and a tad more expensive.
Second, the headphones included in the box weren't very good so i had to buy the HPM-70 Sony Walkman headphones to get good sound quality. But even so, as a music fan, the phone doesnt really beat an actual mp3 player... Nevertheless, quality is acceptable.
And Third, NO shuffling...FOR ME thats a major flaw in a mp3 player...

Anyway besides all that, its a really good phone equiped with a decent mp3 player. Do i recommend this phone? Absolutly!
