Pros: Great form, smallest sidekick yet, cool disco light, very attractive. Support from T-Mobile has been fabulous.
Cons: "Nag screen" if you don't subscribe to web services, memory slot behind battery is bigger problem than I anticipated.
Summary: I was looking for a cool phone with decent camera and full thumb pad for text messaging. Sidekick Slide had those features and much more. Liked the look and solid feel of Slide, never liked the 'swivel' sidekicks in the store.
I soon learned this device has some quirks for non-web/data subscribers. First problem: upon startup the device waits indefinitely at a screen that says "activating account, please wait up to 48 hours...". What it ought to mention is "type 'MENU+L' to bypass web activation." You must hit MENU+L every time you recharge or turn off the phone (unless you subscribe to web/data). That's just a minor annoyance.
The device comes with a pretty good 1.3 MP camera, but only holds 4 pictures unless you insert a memory card. I had read in other reviews that the memory card was "inconveniently located behind the battery." What they don't say is the onboard memory in your device is ERASED when you remove the battery. Goodbye address book, photos, calendar, etc.--all will be wiped clean every time you do this.
In their defence I imagine most gadget reviewers test phones with all the bells and whistles enabled, and thus would never find these limitations.
Why didn't the manual mention this? As the first phone tech explained to me, the device is geared toward the web-users, at the expense of non-web subscribers. While web subscribers' address books and photos are backed up on T-Mobile servers, non-web users have to learn the hard way to manually copy addresses to their SIM card.
If you install expansion memory before your first use and you subscribe to the full web services you will love this phone. Even without web it's a good phone, but hopefully this CNET user review can help you avoid some suffering.
Last word: T-Mobile customer support has been fabulous. Short wait times, techs always have the answer. Clearly the company has a great support database and the techs have decent English skills. A+ service. -

Pros: SLIDE: smaller size, better screen than SK 3, Motorola quality, cheaper. LX: Bigger screen.
Cons: SLIDE: Smaller screen, no fashionable "swing" mechanism, still no 2 mp camera, and still no video taking abilities. LX: Pricey, bigger size, still no 2 mp camera, and still no video taking abilities.
Summary: I would say that the Slide is a better choice. First of all, it has a smaller size, physically. It no longer has the decidedly breakable "swing" screen machanism, and the screen itself is better than the SideKick 3's, even if it's not any bigger (though the small screen might not look as out of place on a smaller device like the Slide). Plus, it has the Motorola quality. If you've ever had a Rizr Z3 from T-mobile, you'll know that Motorola knows how to make a good slider phone. The biggest factor for me is that it's also $100 cheaper.
The LX could be a better choice, but only because it has a larger screen. Also, it has the "swing" screen, so if you really like that, then you'll want the LX. Aside from the larger screen (and remember; it has the same resolution as the Slide, so the screen might be bigger, but not better), I can not see how the LX is better. Especially when it costs $300, and still has only a 1.3 megapixel camera. -

Pros: Motorola Made, Better call quality, $100 cheaper than LX and has the same features.
Cons: Only con is no video playback or Wi-Fi, battery is decent.
Summary: The fact the the phone is Motorola made, make the decision easier in terms of purchasing the slide over the LX, the call quality is better, it is mentioned in numerous test, as well as my own testing of both phones, as far as the things the phone lacks, we'll its a phone used for messaging so that's what you get. Though the Slide is more comfortable when making calls than the LX.
The LX is weak, speaker phone is weak, bigger key pad, no alarm clock and the screen alone is not worth an extra $100 unless you have big hands then the LX is recommended over the slide.
The screen is a little clearer than the Slide but not to the point where you would want to spend a extra $100 bucks though, Motorola has more experience making cell phones than danger, the slide feature is better in my opinion, to keep flipping up the swivel screen repeatedly got annoying on my sidekick ID.
The fact of the matter the Slide and LX are exactly the same phone with the same features, while I prefer the slide and you have my reasons above, save the hundred bucks that way you won't feel cheated when you get home. -

Pros: Great device - messaging is a snap, email is useful and the interface is really user-friendly
Cons: The Web Browser is completely non-functional. The call quality is okay and the small headphone jack is annoying
Summary: I just purchased this phone with a new 2 year contract from the T-Mobile store in my local mall just last week. I had Verizon for about 8 years prior and thought it might be time to try something new. I've always liked the Sidekicks but thought they were a bit too bulky and the swivel screen made me feel a bit uncomfortable. So when I saw the Slide I thought it would be a perfect fit - especially with T-Mobile's insanely cheap data plan for the device.
So I buy the phone ($199.99), 300 min MyFav's contract ($39.99/mo), the Unlimited Data Plan ($19.99/mo) and the protection plan ($4.99/mo) all totally up to around $65/mo! I was so excited, I just wanted to pop it open and start playing. I soon found out that the only thing really getting in the way was the completely non-functional Web Browser. I am now on my third sidekick and am seriously considering dropping T-Mobile.
I had heard from friends that their customer service was atrotious and boy were they right. No one can give me any answers as to why I am paying for a service I haven't ever gotten, and why every phone I've used hasn't worked. I honestly like the phone for what it does and the monthly bill is so cheap I hate to leave it but, Im willing to pay AT&T or Sprint $30-$40 more per month just to have a working phone and helpful customer service.
Please be aware that the Web Browser (while maybe not in all the phones - but certaintly the THREE I have tried) is not functional, and if you have my luck you'll spend your first week or two fighting to get it working. -

Pros: Smaller/thinner, no gimicky swivel screen, Motorola made, possible Wi-Fi
Cons: Possibility of no Wi-Fi, no video, lame camera
Summary: Unlike the LX, this is an upgrade. It gets rid of the swivel, its significantly smaller, has nearly the same quality of screen (despite the hype the LX is getting), and finally the ability to put on your own ring tones. No more terrible sidekick ring tone selection. That alone was the one thing I hated about the 2 and 3.
