"VERIZON WILL KICK YOU OFF NETWORK FOR MODEM CARD USE!"
Pros: None~~~!!!!
Cons: Lied about unlimited data card plans~ cost more then sprint for same access~not a loyal company
Summary: i know everyone here is going to have a field day with my review. if you don't beleive that this happen read my complain at the better business bureau. i was a customer with verizon for almost two years. my service was pretty good so i renewed to get a modem card and plan. i was told i would have unlimited data access. so i used verizons evdo in place of my home service. i only used it to surf and download some songs here and there. i did not stream, or file share, or use the service with voip. but since i used this service for work as well as for home use, i used it several hours a day. i had the service for three month, where out of nowhere one afternoon someone from verizon called me and said they were canceling my service. when i asked why they said i was using my UNLIMITED service to often. they refused to let me keep my service and made me pay full price for the modem card. which they refused to let me send back. a company that i was with for over 2 years that i never onces missed a payment. never once yelled at any care person. i never abused my service but because i was using my verizon evdo more then just once a day they let me go. come to find out, that this is very common place. the better business bureau has bucket loads full of complaints from former customers like myself. i even read that if you use more then 500 mbs a month verizon will flag your account for an audit. i'm not making this up but from the look of the comments here someoneone is going to bash me and call me a lier. it really doesnt matter. if you are foolish enough to go with verizon and get a modem card, be prepaid to get booted if you use over 500mbs in a month. i can't belive verizon will charges 60 dollars a month and expects customers to use less then 500mbs a month!
i was forced to leave verizon for sprint. i didnt really want to because i had heard from someone that they werent that good. but i have no had any problems yet. i have found a way to pay less for their evdo by buying a phone tethering plan. 40 a month compared to 60 for verizon. and sprint has not called me once on my web usage. so verizon, you lost a loyal customer! now i'm going to tell everyone not to buy your overpriced lies!!

It is very true that Verizon's advertising of "unlimited use" is misleading. When I signed up for the plan a couple of years ago, I was specifically told by a salesperson that there was no cap, and I could watch videos or download anything I wanted on the internet. I later found out that this was not Verizon's policy, but luckily it is almost impossible to go over 5GB unless you are downloading movies or using Verizon wireless as your primary internet service. Still I think Verizon should advertise "high usage" plan with up to 5GB/mo. The "unlimited" hook is not completely honest. I still love verizon's network way too much to switch over such a small thing though.

I'm having a hard time believing that you were kicked off for using half a gig of data in a month. I used 2.5 gigs and am having no probs. Perhaps you left off a decimal point?

I was told by a customer service rep that those mobile broadband cards are NOT replacements for a Cable/ DSL connection at home, rather they are intended to be occasional replacements for a WiFi hotspot where one is not available. Attempting to use them as a home broadband service will likely violate the terms and conditions of your contract, the lesson being always read the fine print very carefully.

the reason for tha is that you are allowed unlimited internet access but not unlimited downloads see then thing is is that verizon is trying to stop illigal downloads and stop their network from being over loaded so when downloaded songs or went online to use something else lke a webcam or went and downloaded music then u actually have a 5 gb limit that also states that in the terms and conditios in which verizon is totally liable for in which they can suspend your service in which you signed up for it doesnot matter how long you have been whith them because you are going outof the contrats limit in which if u where an informed customer would have asked.so its unlimited internet browsing dwnload u just ave 5gb a month because they are trying to stop illegal downloads

in the data calling plan features on the price plan guides it clearly tells you
"We reserve the right to protect our network from harm, which may impact legitimate data flows. We reserve the right to limit throughput speeds or amount of data transferred, and to deny or terminate service, without notice, to anyone we believe is using one of these Data Plans or Features in any manner prohibited "
so your telling my verizon wants to stop taking your money for no reason? how is that good business?? obviously they want to make money, but if you are hogging all the data it interferes with a lot of other customers. you did something wrong. maybe you had a virus, maybe you downloaded more than you thought. and by the way its a total of over 5gbs of data per month for a time of over three months. get your facts before you bash. and learn the difference between kbs and mbs and gbs. -
I have heard about this previously, but was told by our corporate VW yuks that they no longer do that. Seems they are talking out of both sides of their mouth, while offering a module that actually fits into our corporate data routers to use in addition to our wired service.

Notice, also, that Dlink and LinkSys BOTH have home routers whose primary source of data connection is WWAN. -
You didn't really comment on anything about the phone. Typically people stick with cable and whatnot for internet access, not mobile companies, because they're just that--mobile companies. I think most people on this review page are looking for a cell phone, not an internet provider. In addition, just because you and a bunch of people that you read about had that complaint doesn't mean that it is common place. This is your issue only; it's most likely rare, so don't generalize it as though it will happen to everyone.

Firstly, you have a max amount of 5GB a month, and the ONLY way you would get kicked off is if you violated the terms and conditions, and were trying to stream too many video files.

Yes, it is true that Verizon can and will kick you if you use their service for extreme downloading. However, the limit that they define is 5GB per month. They specifically say in the terms that it is not designed for home use, and P2P use along with music/video downloading is not allowed, although I'm positive that store reps are not very forthcoming about that fact.
Mobile internet services work similarly to cable internet in that whenever you're using the internet, other customers' speeds will slow down. If you abuse the bandwidth with heavy downloading, other customers' speeds will drop significantly, which is something that Verizon cannot accept, nor can any other carrier. It should be noted that even cable has limits per month on how much you can download, though it is much higher than 5GB. It should also be noted that all other carriers make the same stipulation in their terms and conditions, too, not just Verizon.
The bottom line is that Verizon's mobile broadband service is designed for those who need internet no matter where they go, not for those who can't get broadband service to their house with cable/DSL. -
I just finished a 2 year contract with Nextel... which was the epitome of the word terrible. Nothing but problems with Nextel. I have had a laptop with wireless in my house, and i was going to go to verizon because it is the only provider that has bars in my neighborhood- which is in the city? I was with Nextel for 2 years without service in my own house. Anyways, I know that I am going to get a phone service with verizon, but i was debating on whether or not to get a wireless card too...
Now, i think i will just stick to the phone.
