"Great network but with Sprint I get free Verizon/Alltel voice and web roaming"
Pros: Great network!Great size!
Cons: Can't use any other non-Verizon software. Can't visit full web sites. Can't do anything fun.
Summary: I was with Verizon for a little over a year. At my school, in most of the dorms, Verizon is dependable. The biggest problem for me with Verizon was the lack of features and the price for what little access they give. I couldn't use Vcast. I couldn't set my phone to roam. I couldn't view any live TV. I couldn't add free programs from the web like Opera Mini, Flurry or Gmail. I couldn't view full web sites through the 9800's web browser. To others this is not a big deal but it is for me. If I'm paying you seventy dollars a month, I want everything I am paying for! So I switched to Sprint. Yes I know this is a Verizon review but let me explain. I went into a Sprint store and they told me I could roam, for (FREE) on Verizon's and Alltel's networks. They told me I could set my phone to roam and use every voice and web features for free when I was roaming. They showed me how to do it in the store and I went home with my new service. This is how I look at it.
I can pay for a F&F plan (Which is a type of plan Verizon doesn't offer). I can add the fifteen dollar Moto Q data plan (What Verizon charges Fifty for). I can use any of my anytime and unlimited N&W minutes while I am roaming. And I can use the web while roaming. I even found out that I can still watch TV and listen to the radio when roaming (I couldn't even use Vcast because Verizon doesn't have it in my area). So I get access to three networks (Sprint-Verizon-Alltel) all for the price of one. And I get to use web features that I couldn't with Verizon. This is what makes Sprint far, far, far, far, far, far superior then Verizon. The way I see it, if you pay for Verizon or Alltel, you are paying for the same type of access I get for free with Sprint. 3 networks for the price of 1!
Verizon doesn't offer anything close to this. You can't justify in my mind how Verizon is better then Sprint, when I get to use your carriers network for free!

UGH! Everyone always does this. Those sales people are driven on commission. They will tell you all the tricky things they've been asked to tell you in order to get the sale.
It's possible that you are in one of few rare areas that has stronger Sprint service than Verizon service. However, that possibility aside--
Every major company includes free roaming. None of them have data plans whilst roaming, besides basic things such as SMS or text messaging. TV and VCast and other mobile media services are very strictly confined to major urban areas, with ALL companies. Haha, getting Verizon, Sprint and Alltel all in one, eh? Those companies all run off the same CDMA network, and all of them allow roaming into each others areas(Alltel more limited than Sprint or Verizon). If you want to speak strictly by coverage mass, Verizon owns and has commissioned the most cell phone towers of any other company.

"free use of VZ network....free roaming"? How are you roaming for free? You're paying a bill every month aren't you. The term roaming is outdated anyway because almost all of todays phone plans are touted as nationwide. Besides all of the phone companies with similar technologies lease each others towers to each other. You think Cingular/AT&T don't share with T-Mobile? They advirtise "free roaming" so that simple minded people like you will think you're getting something special when really you're just getting a nationwide plan just like every other carrier out there offers. Think about it.

You're not entirely giving accurate facts. First of all, you can't just hop from one network onto another. Your phone will only roam onto another network if Sprint's network is nowhere in sight. Also, I'm not so sure you can use the web when you're on someone else's network. A phone's web features are usually carrier dependent. I could be wrong about that...I don't know what your real-world experience has been. But my "Sprint friends" can't use the web when they're in a Verizon coverage area.
You make one good point....the Sprint data plans are a lot cheaper than Verizon data plans.
Finally....if coverage is what you're after, you made a big mistake going with Sprint. If Sprint customers could get coverage that compares to Verizon (via roaming), we'd all be Sprint subscribers. But we're not. Sprint subscribers are the 2nd most frequently converted subscribers (people moving from Sprint to Verizon). Sounds like the Sprint store saw you coming and knew how to hook you. -
Yes! You do get all (3) however you will not get any incoming calls while watching TV or listening to the radio.All incoming calls will go directly to voicemail.Also,you will get alot of voicemail even if you are not using the phone.This has been a major problem for sprint for many years.With verizon,none of this will happen.You can watch video clips as well as use the web and still receive incoming calls at the same time.Bottom line: You will regret switching to sprint.

Roaming is free, no issues there, I never have any issues with websites, maybe that was related to the phone model MegamanJill had. Don't know. VCast is the shizzle for me too. No complaints here, I can't speak to Sprint, but AT&T (Cingular) stinks. I had them and bailed and sucked up the loss. Phone never worked anywhere, I was in NY City and DC a ton. Those are major hubs, too major to have issues. Also, txt messages from them failed about 5% of the time, 5% is way, way too often. I can understand with some users having to chose a service based on Network availability for their region, but that is mostly in very rural areas not near major hubs. Outside of that, Verizon's service is the best hands down, it is true they lock machines to try and force users to get software through them, that is why that although they have less subscribers now than AT&T(Cingular) they double profits. There are work arounds to all these things, just some simple googling will get you answers.

on some of the older plans from four years ago roaming would cost an extra five dollars a month. the new plans include it for free. i roam sometimes at work but sprint has never charged me for it. you should be fine as long as you get a plan that comes with free roaming. seeing as you would be signing up for them as a new customer, just make sure you get one of the fair and flexible plan. those i know for a fact include free roaming.

i have a samsung blade that i use for modem tethering and roaming is free even when using the data network. i don't know whos network it is that i can roam on though.

i checked on the sprint web site and the roaming is listed as free but i did not see anything about free data roaming. if this roaming thing is real then i want to sign up. i just don't want to sign up then find out roaming is not free or something....how can i make sure?
