Completely aligned to national science standards, Space Academy GX-1 rockets students into a brain-expanding mission through the solar system. Stunning images help students grasp the vast dimensions of space and understand the relative sizes of planets, moons, and galaxies. Students investigate the astronomical basis for seasons, phases of the moon, gravity, orbits, and other space science concepts. As students succeed, the program responds with more advanced topics and problems. Built-in recordkeeping tools allow teachers to track students' progress. In this hands-on program, students: interpret pictures, bar graphs, and charts to choose among competing hypotheses about the solar system; learn how astronauts successfully orbit the gravity wells of planets, moons, and the sun; discover trajectory paths to launch their spaceships to different locations in the solar system; understand the relationships between the sun, moon, and Earth through interactive models; re-create astronomical events, such as solar eclipses or phases of the moon, and view them from many points both on Earth and out in space; investigate gravitational forces, orbital pull, and Newton's Laws of Motion; explore the relationship between momentum and acceleration.
