    "Xbox 360=junk"

    by mce8972 on November 24, 2005

Pros: I'll admit it had good graphics utill it broke

Cons: I had it for 2 days untill the hardware fried

Summary: The graphics are good, but I had it for two days and the system stopped working. I called xbox surport and they said there was something wrong with the hardware inside the xbox and I have to send it in. When I asked how long he put me on hold for 20 minutes untill he told me it would take 2 to 3 weeks to return it to my house. Just think waiting in line for 6 hours in the cold weather to have it for 2 days. Now I have 4 games, a faceplate, 3 extra wireless controllers, 3 weeks out of my xbox live subscription, plus everything included in the premium system. They should make sure it works before they charge $400 for one.

i think you like your xbox 360, but not how long it will take to get a new one. am i right? it seems as though that the service is what made you rate it so low and not the xbox itself.

My xbox 360 lasted only 4 months. Hardware failure. Wish I had went with a different system.

Enjoyed the 360 for exactly 3 months before the disc drive/motor died. Was excited about the idea of being online with friends and family. I have a buddy have the same problem happen to his 360. He is now on his 3rd 360 because of the same problem. Come to think of it, my PS2 was bought in 2002 & it is still going with no problems. The PS2 was purchased at a less expensive price: $200. Microsoft needs to make their products as good or better than their opponents.

If you want a console to last you a long time wait awhile after launch and they will fix all the bugs in the first consoles and you with have a great system. Also most places sell replacement plans (Like Gamestop). If you have purchased one they will just swap you out in store.

1 year warranty is good only from the date of purchase of the original 360. MS paid for repairs until my 3rd 360 crashed six months after they sent me a refurbished 360. 3rd 360 now is not under the 1 year warranty, so had to pay for repairs.

I love my 360 and the original, the PSP (no longer own it), DS, PS2(never owned it but played it), and every other videogame console but this is my #1 rule with ANY piece of technology: NEVER BUY IT THE DAY IT COMES OUT AND WITH VIDEO GAME CONSOLES NEVER BUY IT WITHIN THE 1ST 6 MONTHS. You should not have to wait that long true, but there will never be a flaw-free system in my opinion but you can counter these things by not buying the product in the 1st 6 months to a year. With most other products though if it had flaws they are usually fixed within first 2-8 months. Thats mostly Cellphones, cameras, mp3 players, among other items!

You couldn't you have just returned it?

  • reply by: Sportzguy933 on December 3, 2006

Microsoft has fixed 100% of the hardware issues via updates and replacements, so go ahead and ship your's in to get it fixed in a few days.

i got my console working fine since 2/2006 and last week started freezing and then the feared three red lights came on , had to call m/s support four times to get repair order to get trough their system, they said they were upgarding , have to pay for shipping if i wanted repair it sooner ,or will take up to 3 weeks, let's see what happens next , so far the graphics and game experience is the best so far

SORRY that your 360 crapped out on u
    the thing is, the 360
is an amazing console. No Doubt.
ive had mine for a couple of months and it works amazingly.
the only downside is that, if you plan on gaming for periods of over 4-5 hours and ur room is hot, make sure u get the external cooling system. its only $20 and it helps u to play it ,(360), for very long amounts of timetime

I purchased my console last Christmas eve. Things were good until about a month down the line when I started having a number of problems with the hardware. Disks wouldn't load, tray would jam, crash mid game after you spending 30 mins getting the thing going. Then when I took it back to the shop which living in rural Ireland is a good 40 min drive away I was told that due to the high amount of returns i'd have to ring Microsoft directly, this I did,... What a laugh, about 4 hours on the phone, 2 months and an ulcer later they finally collected and returned my x-box. No appology for the inconvience no 'free game' as i'd hoped! I told them that for the amount of time i'd spent on the phone to them i'd probably get the sack and that maybe I could come work for them as a system tester,... heard no reply though!

I was going to get one of those XBox 360 when it can out, lucky me i didn't! but is it safe to get one now?! Na! I'll get the PS3!!

  • reply by: BigHouseFan on July 25, 2006

I am working on my 3rd 360 and it just started going crazy also so now it's time to send this one back in for my 4th. These are definitely defective units, they are so damn fragile and there are some mass problems with these units! I just thank God that microsoft is stepping up to the plate and replacing these, although I wish they would give me a new unit and not refurbished ones. I am tired of gaming for about 2 months (avg.) and then having to send it in for repair. All the ones I have had get the dreaded red ring of death! :) They should have spent more time testing instead of trying to just beat the PS3 to the market, in my opinion.

  • reply by: mwknowles92 on July 19, 2006

Just so you know, an independent reasearch company checked out how many people have problems with their XBOX 360's. The results said that 2.5% +/- 2% are problematic. The repair time is also half of what you said, and nobody asked you to stand in the cold as long as you did. So **** buddy and get your stuff straight.

I got a 360 the day it came out at Target. My first one locked up on me so I call Xbox and they overnighted me a box which I sent back to them and the next day I had a brand new PREMIUM unit at my house. Sorry if you had a bad experience, but we're rating the machine not the customer service which for me both have been superb.

  • reply by: jaymanjt on June 26, 2006

I was told by a national retail store chain that they were seeing about 30% defectives. Just save your receipt when you buy it and if you have a bad one you can exchange it for one without the hardware crash problem. Microsoft should be more honest as they told me 1 in 2000 were defective. It is a great system when you get one that is not defective.

My Xbox had a terminal hardware failure at 5 months of minimal use. Microsoft charges $129.00 for repair. Its the number complaint of xbox 360 users There is an obvious defect; if it were a call the Federal Government would order a recall. Where is the class action lawsuit?

  • reply by: ijaefelonyi on May 17, 2006

Are you crazy? Xbox 360 is great. Maybe your just not a good gamer. The 360 is for serious gamers and not noobs that are still on the first gameboy. So just shut up.

from the way things are looking the ps3 is going to be the first console w/ tru high defination *cough* 1080p *cough* even thou most folks dont have a 1080p desplay the pure graphical prossesing power of the ps3 is sure to plz.

gee im suprized 360 didnt throw in 4 more cores in that cheap huck of plastic to even be compareable with the awsome power of the "cell".

ps3 with prices being $500 and $600 and with both having hard drives (not being cheap) and so what if sony is copying from others, the ps3 is going to work for me to be the most entertaing thing out their.

Blu what?... thats right blu ray with the xbox 360 not even useing hd-dvd's is dissapointing and a relly smart move on microsofts half...syke!

did u kno its called the 360 because so it could sound worthy againts the playstation"3" and not be called the xbox2!
    LMAO!
neways ill leave this for u ugly box-x2 or 3,600 (or what ever its called) fanboys a make the swith before anyone else knos u like that cheap heap

Obviously Microsoft did'nt know your's would break 2-3% of all consoles have problems at launch. PS3 will be no different. Here it is 4/17/2006 If someone were to go buy one today they could exchange it at the store Immediately. The risk of being part of any launch is supply and demand you cant take it back to the store to exchange it cause they aint got no more to exchange it with. That said I got 2 360 one at launch premium at best buy palmdale the store tha sponsored the launch at site nine. Then I got a core for my son a week latter at gamestop. I reserved a 360
premium and they only got 20 at launch I was 60th on the list so when they got a core I was Like Idont have to share with my son and he doesnt have an hd tv so a core would be great. Needless to say I have 10000 gamescore my son has over 5000 and we Love our 360's I havent met one person who is not stoked about it! so go get one and stop cryin

That comment on the xbox is absolute bollocks.
That rating belongs to not the xbox, but the factory that produced the first wave of them.

  • reply by: unwise on March 31, 2006

First off... not everyone's Xbox is going bad... Not to say that mine didnt go bad either. BUT 3 weeks!!! Mine took less than a week to replace and I didnt even buy the service plan from microsoft, and they gave me a new one! On top of that... they have extended all warranties till late september! What more do you want!

  • reply by: Jagosix on March 23, 2006

Hello. If think that the PS3 will ship without any flaws, dude you seriously need some mental help. Some of the systems will fail the same same way or worse than the x360. How Sony's going to handle the return is the question?

Again as far as graphic goes on both system, they're basically the same. So, it all boils down to the the most common thing that we crave. THE GAMES.

Xbox Live is the best online service period. Even Sony & Nintendo are going to try to imitate it. The x360 features are also being copied.

Sometimes it's good to be 1st. Wouldn't you say.

I LOVED my xbox 360 UNTIL it crashed. hey it took 3 months but it died. Out of warranty and paying for it. Microsoft told me it was a hardware problem and I would have to send it in. Did they test these things before selling it? I waited over 9 hours to get one, all that lack of sleep and credit card debt for this!?

  • reply by: ashesinthefall on March 13, 2006

thats just a rare case of the xbox 360 not working. most of them work fine and the system itself is great. chances are your xbox 360 will work fine.

  • reply by: jlholtzman on March 6, 2006

I bought an Xbox 360 last week and it was broken right out of the box, it wouldn't even turn on. When I called xbox support, they were fairly rude, but ultimately they sent me a brand new system in only about 4 days.

  • reply by: jeff88 on March 5, 2006

Dude, alll companies make that same mistake and send probably 1/1000 defected merchandise. You were just one of the unlucky ones. This doesn't help out with wheter someone wants to buy the console or not. It just is a bunch of whining on your personal life. No one cares about that. We need to know how well it runs, its graphics, etc... (excluding a defected Xbox 360's working condition meaning you probably shouldn't have written a review. Thanks for wasting 30 seconds of my time.

  • reply by: harold1968 on January 23, 2006

if this is endemic, then fair enough. but its not. you are just venting your frustration (which I understand)

  • reply by: xbox3604life on January 2, 2006

The first wave of xbox 360's that came in were defective. They did not work properly. But the 2nd wave and all the rest work fine. They just rushed to get it out by christmas and made a mistake. The xbox 360 is fine and awsome. You just have bad luck.....

  • reply by: robnyack on December 17, 2005

based on how you described MS's customer service response, I'm not even sure if I believe you.

  • reply by: duelking375 on December 2, 2005

Well we can see your not happy but a 3/10 for a system of this caliber just because you had a problem with it is pretty bad, the thing could have been damaged during shipment and everything has its flaws so really that rating was junk. You really need to change the rate to how it plays and things like that
