"Not good for games"
Pros: New, compatable with old games
Cons: Not a gaming console
Summary: These latest "gaming machines" are mostly ordinary DVD players with special controllers. Nintendo had the right idea with the Gamecube, in that it only plays games. People do not really need seven or eight dvd players for their TV. They only need one, and you can get an ordinary one for far less than an Xbox (Or even a PS2). They should make the next system be exclusively designed for playing games. If people do not currently have a DVD player, they probably are too poor to buy an Xbox. However, the interchangeable and replaceable hard drive is a very useful feature, as it eliminates the need for memory cards. If it only played games and nothing else, I might get one. I don't need it for anything other than playing games, so why would I need it to do other things, such as play DVD movies, which I can do on other things as well, such as my computer. It's really a silly thing to do, and they should know that most people probably are going to have more than one gaming console anyway, and probably an actual DVD player.

The 360 plays games, dvds, streams MP3s and video from Windows PCs, allows the transfer of MP3 files for custom game soundtracks, and will have an HD-DVD attachment shortly. Granted, I bought it to play games and could really care less what else it does, but since the other features are there I definitly make use of them.
HD-DVD players will be $500 to $1000 at first, while the 360's HD-DVD attachment will likely be far less than that (since the hardware is already there to do most of the work.) Having 2 HDTV's, that is a major bonus for me especially since NetFlix will be carrying the new hi-def DVD formats fairly soon.
For playing games, this thing is amazing. It's other features are peripheral, but can still be very much useful. Will I use it to play standard DVD's? No, my Yamaha 5 disc changer handles that. Will I use pretty much everything else, most definitly. -
You'd rather buy the XBOX if it "Didn't" have the DVD player ??? Isn't that just sugar on top of what it already is ??? Or would you like to also buy the latest IPOD if it didn't play videos and show pictures ???
I've played the XBOX 360 and I can vouch that this system is FOR REAL and the NEXT GENERATION for gaming consoles. Pre-order yours while you can. Even if your bias toward the XBOX 360 or the PS3, what good is a house without both !?!?!?!?! (Throw in the Revolution as if your into that, I just didn't mention it because I don't anything nintendo anymore =) ...) -
You didnt even playing it and your downing it already. I bet you will change your mind when it comes out. This is the best system probly since gamecube.

I want you to look at all the comments people have made about your post and realize how retarded you really are. I am going to make a flash animation about you and your comment and it is going to be posted all over the internet showing how retarded you are. I am totally devastated.

Again, one of the biggest selling points of the Xbox series is that it actually has a Hard Drive.
In the past, Xbox has allowed users to rip their own music to the xbox hard drive.
Maybe this time you'll be able to rip movies if you have that optional hard drive on the Xbox 360.
By the way cschwarz you need a dvd player to do that if you havent figured out yet -
Its just a selling point for both Sony and Microsoft. By adding "cool" features like that to their product description they make their product seem its worth your money.
I hear how you say the Nitendo Gamecube is better in the sense it cant play DVD's. But
Nitendo did try to make a Gamecube DVD hybrid with electronic giant Panasonic. It was uncessusful...
Its still a great system though, it has Resident Evil, Super Smash Brot Melee...
It just doesnt "attract" new consumers.

I feel dumb after reading that idiotic "review," as if his stupidity rubbed off on me. How can you even pass judgment on something you've never even tried?

How could you give a 2 for the xbox 360. In my view the only thing it will do well is play games. Movies lol, when HD-DVD or Blue-ray hit stores this peice of crap will have no true capablities outside of the gameing industry. If you realy want a true game machine i suggest you build a custom gaming pc.

you missed the point cschwarz!
How would you expect to read the games without a DVD drive??
Not to mention the advantage of playing directly from the DVD drive - saving the hassle of installing the game... -
eom, that's all.

Personally, I'll stick to my computer for games, but the Xbox 360 IS a high end gaming machine.. That just so happens to play DVDs on the side. Which happens to be a nice addition. This is a heck of a lot more than just a DVD player, cshwarz. It is pretty much a miny computer. It comes with a hard drive and high end video card. I'd suggest playing one, or even learning about technology before posting a review again.
