Pros Larger form-factor makes it easier to hold and use D-Pad. Feels hefty in a good way. Stereo sound seems more "spatial" since the speakers are farther away. Sreen is bright and gorgeous.
Cons are more visible. This does not bother everyone, but might some. It is bigger and heavier, which I consider a pro but some might consider a con against its smaller counterpart. A little more expensive, however, see my summary, below.
Summary When considering the price, please remember a few things... The hardware is more expensive (larger 3D screen, more plastic, larger packaging, etc..). Also, this unit includes a 4GB SDHC card, as opposed to a 2GB SD that comes bundled with the regular 3DS. Now that the justifications for its higher price are out of the way, the 3DS XL itself feels better built than the regular 3DS (I own both). The casing is sturdier, and the screen locks in 3 different positions. It feels very solid. The screen is very bright and both brightness and color look even throughout. The bottom touchscreen is much easier to use with your fingers due to its larger size. The sound, in my opinion, is an overall upgrade since the speakers are farther apart (it allows for stereo sound to be more spatial). I'm not sure if the speakers are larger, but it does sound clearer than the regular 3DS. The texture is more "flat" or "matte", which makes it looks better, but I realize this is a matter of opinion. My regular 3DS looks like cheap plastic as it's very shiny and has a "gradient" effect with the color. In 1:1 pixel ratio, DS, as well as Virtual Console GBA games look amazing... Since there's more real-estate than the regular 3DS, the 1:1 screen area doesn't look tiny. NES Virtual Console games look perfect in full fill (default) mode, because of the vertical pixel count. They even have a bit of a "TV" horizontal black lines effect going that makes games like Metroid look like they did on a CRT.Copy-paste fail. Under Cons, the first sentence should read:
All in all, I think this is the 3DS to buy if you don't already own one, and if money isn't an issue and you already do, buy it anyway because the playing experience will be that much more pleasant.

"Since the screen resolution remains unchanged, pixels are more visible."
Pros Touch-Screen, has own exclusives, just EPIC!!
Cons 3D is kind of cheesy, and I get eye strain from the 3D a lot.
Summary Good console, I recommend it to everyone.
