"The DS is a great system and focuses on just gaming unlike the overpublicized Sony PSP."
5.0 starson by raegrl52792Pros: 2 screens,good battery life,cool games,backward capability,cheap games,great sound
Cons: a little bulky but a minor detail
Summary: Let me start off by saying im not a Sony hater.I have had a PS1,PS2,and N64. I don't care what the brand is, if your product is hot ill buy it regardless of the maker.
The DS is a great system. The DS is most commonly known for its 2 screens. This has totally revoultionizes the gaming world.(forgive the spelling im 13)I personally love using a stylus or thumb stylus. The Ds also has great sound. My family loves to talk so its great that I can still hear my games while they're yapping.ALso the DS has backward cability so this is good for the first month when you might have 1 or 2 games.
As for the whole rivalry between the DS and the PSP I think its nonsense. The PSP is a great system but in my eyes has be overpublicized.I have played the PSP and think of this:the games are 50 dollars,u have 2 buy memory cards, and movie disks.Another thing is this:the PSP is a very hi-tech device. So if u have this and you r an adult you most likely have an iPod or another mp3 player.so there goes one of the PSP's features.are you gonna waste the cash u spent on a ipod? The DS is alittle bulky but I think every true gamer will get past that.
LOOK BOTH THE DS AND THE PSP ARE GREAT GAMING SYSTEM BUT I THINK ONCE YOU GET PAST THE LIGHTS AND HYPE OF THE PSP YOU SHOULD ASK YOURSELF THIS IF THE PSP IS SUPPOSED TO BE A GAME SYSTEM WHY ARE THEY PUTTING ON ALL THESE LITTLE EXTRA FEATURES?
I'm not trying to influence you to buy a DS or not buy a PSP.I just think the psp put on the fancy features to distract you.
i hope you will take what i said into consideration.

This is to raegrl52792 u got to be kidding me i have a psp the psp and it is soooooooooo much better. I have admit the ds is a good system......but it isnt close to the psp. the psp can actually go online. Also the psp games cost 39.99 oh smart one and ds ones cost 34.99 big diff. you also can see the pixles on a ds but not on a psp.About the memory stiks it comes with one and still can hold more games than a ds. The psp isnt just a game player. when u said the thing about waisting money to have it i could just say that if u have a portable instant messanger and got a ds it would be a waist. And aboutthe extra features its an mp4 u idiot r u going to say that about another mp4? the extra fratures are good also.if nintendo did that like all there items it would be half baked and bad. Also since you r dumb you probly didnt know that if u go online, u can get FREE VIDEOS FOR YOUR PSP. U DONT NEED TO GET UMDS.

SONY DID NOT PUT "THESE LITTLE THINGS" here and there for you to comment on them and say that there are too many good features you blasphemy to society!

What does the PSP have?? A memory stick reader - used for game saves; can also be used to play movies, music, store data pictures w/e you name it.

The WI-FI- Sony actually has the guts to expand the game experience and put in a browser besides just a muliplayer capability.

WHAT ELSE??? A UMD??? OMG

This thing is more games focused than any other hand held to date buddy - THE PSP DOESENT DO THAT THE GAME DEVELOPERS DO!

When you are comparing the DS and the PSP its like you are comparing a Cell Phone to a Computer. DS = badly made children's games and thats about it, PSP= Pocket PS2 or Xbox and more.

Just for future refrence, when somebody designs a product and they make ingenious use of its components making it able to do much more it is called a spin off!

Please this is just silly, if you are seriously 13 you should not comment on these things because your lack of knowledge and bad judgement just angers everyone.

adding extra features to a device is never something bad for the makers. think about it, it doesn't hurt to have the ability to play music in a wide range of supported formats, videos and photos. what you said was true and that happends to be my case. I have an Ipod which definitely overshadows the psps in the sound(only in the loud part, tests showed that the psps actually sounds better) but it helps just to have it enable in the psp. why fall short if it doesn't take anything but a few more bucks to include this?
I don't know what your point was regarding the multy-ability of the psp as thats what gets all of it's hype and sets the psp apart from the competicion. Your point only resembles what the makers of the (nintendo DS which was not aimed at man but kids) most likely think, so they could get a change in the portable device fight

Well said and put I liked the fact that your 13 and with such a serious opinion.

Although the PSP is not the worst system out there, I think the DS outshines it it pure terms of gaming and not the terrible extra fluff. Well said

That observation is so true. I think sony is trying to distract people from the crappy games on the PSP

Ok, the DS is a great system for any gamer. but not your serious, heavy into mature games type gamer. The PSP made made for a more mature aduience. Not that adults can't enjoy the games DS offers... but you won't see Liberty City grand theft auto on DS. That's because nintendo likes promoteing to a younger audience. You'll notice that a majority of their titles are suited as such. I don't think I've ever seen a mature nintendo supported game.

I mean, I was just watching G4 yesterday, a gaming channel on cable. They were doing a report on mortal kombat. While the sega system had originally offered blood in its game mortal kombat, nintendo did not. They catered to a more younger audience. They always have. Since even mario first came out.

Sony just happens to be one of those companies who offers its customer more. you WILL pay more... BUT, you WILL get a better product by far.

I agree, nintendo does stick with 'game' market. but only if you want to play more everyone and teen rated games.

Plus, i think a certain person who you insulted had a very good point. Six year old kids should not play the DS, maybe 10 and older, but not little kids. Its easy to mess up the console with sticky hands.

Overall, the PSP offers more in terms of handheld media. They just upgraded it for internet access recently to explore web pages. you can play music. The memory stick is mostly universal for your computer and cameras. You can download movies depending on memory stick size and watch them. You can put photos on it. You can play with others on two play games. And even though nintendo is slowly catching up, PSP has a larger range of games to offer.

Am I saying the DS is bad? No, its just made for a less serious, younger type of audience/gamer.

its a gaming system AND more!there is more of a possiblity that you will be enertained more with a psp,its like built for 100% gaming and another 100% extra features. you can get the works u name it, emulators, ripped games, mp3s and if ur not into buying umd videos why not use a program like mpgable x4 to encode ur own videos and save em onto ms duos.
-
I completely agree with you. With the DS's new ability to go Wi-Fi, maybe more people will get DS's. The Wi-Fi is free, which makes this system even better.
-
the psp?

who cares about friggin movies and mp3 - if those are the man features about it which sony is boasting about most why dot hey call it a gaming system

psp's are cool but you get bored as the games are all the same and mostly racing

true gamers have ds's as the games are all different from other consoles - have you ever seen a fat italian plumber on a sony console????

so what im saying is the ds's gaming is probably the best weve seen wth the touch screen and whatnot.

so dude it totally agree - TOTALLY AGREE!
-
What a dumb idea with a touch screen. Everytime I see a ds it has a ruined screen. Nintendo is made for kids and kids have sticky fingers. Kids cannot take care of this product.

[Edited by: admin]

You are correct, DS rocks. Handheld gaming platforms should be on pure gaming, not compromised gaming because of extra features. (actually that goes for all platforms, and note that the PS2 does a good job at good gaming and extra features)

I am getting a DS and Nintendogs on saturday, and i want to get a PSP in the future. I have an Ipod shuffle myself, but when the battery gives out, it's gonna cost £10 more than the ipod is worth to get the battery replaced. When that happens, i'll have a PSP (Hopefully). Are you gonna get Mario Kart DS? I am, so if you are, see you online!

I have to say this is an outstanding review and it is coming from someone almost half the age of all the biased fanboys out there. Good job You made some great points and really showed that you can be civil in a review for a gaming system. I have both the PSP and DS and I agree that the DS is a much more enjoyable handheld system but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy my PSP. Thank you for showing people this is possible.

When I saw the first reviews in my magazines about the DS and the PSP, I immediately thought the PSP would be way better. I was very arrogant in my opinion but then i did some research on the consoles.

It turns out that the PSP in terms of specs and abilities the PSP is a better console in my opinion, but the DS has some amazing features and the graphics aren't amazingly different (Compared to the screenshots at least)

In the long term I'll probably get both, as the multimedia capabilities of the PSP will definitely be useful to me. I was going to get the PSP, but unfortunately stocks in Britain are low, and I'm waiting for the rush to die down and the price to come down.

I'm getting the DS in the next few weeks, and at £100 it's going to be a great deal.

First off, I'd like to say that it was refreshing to see someone support a good review of one system without needed to stoop to abject bashing of another. Very well done!

I thought that most of what you said was right on target. The only bits I disagree with are that two screens revolutionize gaming (I haven't seen evidence of it so far) and that the DS is 'a little bulky.' Personally, I get tired of trying to hold the thing, especially one handed.

Elsewise, I agree that the DS is a more pure gaming system. Hopefully, it will soon have the games to make it shine.
