"my 4 year old palm pilot has more visibility"
onSummary what the hell are they thinking? just bought this thing for my 7 year old boy and he tells me he cant see the screen very good...so i told him...hold on ill figure out how to turn the backlight on. they should call it gameboy regress. Is it a marketing ploy? to sell the stupid lame light attachment. Its all about the almighty buck. save your money.

"no lights??? i dont get it"
onSummary who tured the lights off, and why cant we turn it on..... This product sucks!!!
-
"lots of punch from small package"
onSummary I pretty much expected when I bought it that the screen would need illumination. The store had lights from 4.99 to 15 bucks. I opted for the $15 Gamester florescent and that was a great move. I can see the screen and play in any ambient light situation. I would recommend it with an optional light!

"Not recommended without backlight!"
onSummary Haven't seen this mentioned yet, but the very best backlight for GBA is the Afterburner from tritonlabs.com. It's completely INTERNAL!!! If you don't want to do the surgery to install it yourself, buy one preinstalled from YourHappyPlace.com -- it costs more, but it's worth it! This is what Nintendo should have released in the first place.

"Just Buy It"
onSummary There isn't much to say now, since the Game Boy has been out for over a year. The little thing is great for trips, waits in long lines, or just having fun at home. Yes, everybody says the screen is bad indoors. It is true, but you can normally see it pretty well if you keep lights on in the house. Unless you live in a cave, you can see the screen pretty well indoors with lights on. The sunlight is better though. There are plenty of games to buy, that's no problem. The battery life is excellent, and there are lots of add-ons available, including a Glow Guard light. The thing is only $65.00, so price is no issue for a normal working person, unless you work at McDonalds or KFC. If you don't like it after you buy it, just use it as a paper weight or door stop.

"The best in handheld gaming"
onSummary Very great value. The high-quality LCD screen makes graphics look really good. I have no problem whatsoever with the "dimness." What dimness?
-
"Incredible hardware and great titles!"
onSummary The first game I played on the GBA was Crazy Racers. I was deeply impressed by the mode-7 effects. The GBA is a very powerful handheld indeed. Graphically, it's a lot faster than the super famicom. The fami just can't handle the sharpness of the GBA's 2D, not to mention the amout of sprites on-screen at the GBA's speed. 3D isn't as great as the PSX, but there's some of it nonetheless. The only drawbacks are the lack of 2 extra action-buttons and backlight. The 3rd party lumination accessories aren't any good. Only the built-in ones, but those require soldering. The software-lineup is great. All major 3rd party developers support the GBA. Some games are very simplistic, which is a shame. Others like Krazy Racers and Final Fight One use the hardware at maximum. The GBA is without doubt a great handheld to own.

"Backlight screen sorely needed!"
onSummary I bought a gba, and to this day i still love it! why? because of all the 3rd party support this system is getting. Thus more quality games. The GBA feels like the SNES, only a more powerful version in the palm of your hands. Tha only drawback is the exclusion of a backlight screen. Unless you have a good light source overhead, you'll have alot of problems with the screen as far as visibility is concerned. Other than that I think this is an excellent handheld, and something spectacular must be done (backlight screen) to outdo this one.

"Still no backlight!"
onSummary I love my GameBoy Advance. I've been with GameBoy from the start -- I had a GameBoy, then a GameBoy Pocket, then a GameBoy Color, and now the Advance. I cannot *believe* Nintendo designed the GBA without a backlit screen. What were they thinking??? That's why I gave it such a low rating for Features. Other than the lack of backlighting, the GameBoy Advance is a solid machine with great titles. I also like the fact that -- unlike any other Nintendo product -- the GameBoys have always been backward compatible with the previous version's software. (Wouldn't it be nice if you could play NES titles on your GameCube?) If only they would backlight the frigging screen ...

"Screen is so dark !!!!"
onSummary No matter how good it is... If the screen is so dark that you can't play it - except at a 43.2 degree angle in direct sunlight what good is it?
-
"Good overall console. Could be better."
onSummary I bought the GBA in June of 2001 for $100. I was a little disappointed with the system. Nintendo has since than lowered the price which makes it a better deal. The biggest problem I have with it is the poor screen visability. You almost need to buy a light, even if your playing in the day time. Before I had the light, I had to maneuver the thing to get the light to shine on it just right. The games have very immpressive graphics when you can see them. If you already have a PS2, XBOX, or GameCube, then I would consider buying this as a good portable system. If you do not, I would consider buying one of the newer systems for only $150-200.

"Screen is just too dang dim"
onSummary I really can't rate this machine any higher than this. The screen is just too dark for play unless you are in very bright light. I find the add on light accessories to be less than adequate. The Game Gear and Atari Lynx had better screens when it comes to brightness. Honestly if you can handle the darkness of the screen then get this machine. I also find the size to be better suited for smaller hands.

"suck-ola"
onSummary this thing sucks really bad, but I gave it a "2" for feature because it's doing really well as a doorstop
-
"Nintendo scores again...!!"
onSummary I massive leap from the GB color. If you're sceptical about getting one, don't be!!!This is the best value (video games-wise) your money can buy!
-
"Solid little machine."
onSummary I've dropped it, shoved it in my pocket and backback, and generally treated it badly, and it's holding up like a champ. Great graphics and sound, and a good number of games on the market.
