"Great hardware, even better games...for only $250!"
on by dagreatest41Pros - At $249, it's priced very competitively
- Blu-Ray player
- HUGE library of exclusive AAA games
- FREE multi-player & online gamingCons - XBOX Live is still a better service than PSN (Keeping in mind that you have to pay extra for XBOX Live whereas PSN is free)
Summary If you're a hardcore gamer or simply interested in playing Blu-Ray movies, then you owe it to yourself to pick up a PlayStation3.
HARDWARE:
The fact of the matter is that Sony really knows how to make good hardware and the PS3 is no exception.
It's been 5 years since the PS3 was first released and we're still seeing developers squeeze more juice out of it and produce some of the best and most impressive looking games on the market.
The PS3 is also the only game console to play bluray movies. Sure, there are better dedicated blu-ray players out there on the market but given the value that you get (i.e. being able to play games, movies, music, PSN, Netflix, etc.), the PS3 is still the best bang for your $$$.
SOFTWARE:
Uncharted, God of War, Killzone, Resistance, LittleBigPlanet, Infamous, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, Heavy Rain...the list goes on and on. But what do all these games have in common? They're all AAA exclusive games that cannot be found on any other platform but the PS3. And all you're favorite multi-platform games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Grand Theft Auto, Batman Arkham City, Red Dead Redemption, etc. can also be found on the PS3 + you can plan them online for free (whereas you on xbox Live you have to pay a monthly fee to be able to play online).
Whether you own an xbox 360, a wii, or no consoles at all, there really is no excuse left not to pick up a PS3. -
"just when I thought the xbox 360 was better...."
on by markuscarcassPros built-in Blu Ray player, games in High Definition, standard DVD's even look great, free online gaming, easy to setup internet, digital optical cable, hdmi output, usb ports, very lightweight controller compared to xbox 360, a trick to add music from your
Cons a couple things I dont like are when you are playing a game on this console and you press the eject button it does not quit the game and tells you to put the disk back in meaning you have to quit a game by pressing the PS button and selecting quit game. I
Summary the reason I got a playstation 3 slim in the first place was when I had the red ring of death on my xbox and didnt want to get it repaired because there was still a big chance of it failing only again. the ps3 only has a total of 14% in failure rates and the xbox 360.....over 60%. friends told me the ps3 was much better and I never believed them until I actually got one. I really like how High Definition is written all over this console. games are HD, standard DVD's upscale to near HD, and Blu Ray. and I had over 400 songs on my Ipod and all I had to do was connect the Ipod to the USB port in front of the ps3 and just press copy and it copy's all your songs. I do not regret buying a ps3 slim.

"Packs a lot of features for the price."
on by rdriegoPros Blu ray player, built in Wi-fi, Netflix, Hulu, PSN with free online gaming, constant updates to enhance or add features to the system, web browser.
Cons Loading speed of Blu ray movies fall a bit compared to newer blu ray players, PSN (or sony servers) are currently susceptible to hackers, Wi-fi signal a bit outdated compared to other players.
Summary for the price, it's hard to beat the PS3s functionality.

"Fantastic, especailly for the UK"
on by Small_kidPros alongide all the usual spec (wifi, blu ray, free online, etc) this has play back for all UK licence TV, now has access to play TV (Superb) and Move making it accessible to all and meaning it can handle all and any media.
Cons sony customer service is poor when outside warranty. however in saying this it is very rare for problems to emerge with slim, overheating was a fat problem.
Summary I'm an absolute geek in an area with poor tech (weak digital, poor broadband, etc) and the ps3 has actually changed this. i player etc servises allow me to watch any TV within the past week and sometimes longer. Play TV substitutes no other recoeding device beautifully with an incredibly easy to use system, furthermore, tv can be paused, fast forward and berownd meaning you are in full control. Play TV also seems to act as a booster enabling me to watch digital id otherwise miss.
free online gaming is great, and easy to use. though i find this can take a while, my friends find it fine making it likely to be a location issue. also i have no ethnet so run it through wi fi. that being said i have no problems and don't suffer from lag once games commence.
love fim is a new application which starts at £10 a month but for a little extra gives access to hundreds of films via the net in HD.
can be used alongside external hard drives for extra memory and suffers no lag.
finally the gaming. though i hate to admit it, for the most part there is little or no difference in quality/quantity when compared with 360. however the exclusives are truely equisite. my favourite here is the uncharted series which offer engrossing stories, challenging, tactical fights and are packed with such great amount of detail you'd think it impossible. at times you become a part of a film, the experience is so well done. -
"Greatest system to date."
on by killbill2xPros Services such as "netflex" and "Vudu". Blu-Ray player is unmatched. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are reliable. Internet Browser when you want to browse on your TV. Store all your music, pictures and video on the hard drive. Game quality is very good with HDMI
Cons Hard drive is formatted to only one ps3 .The Int. Browser menus are akward and not user friendly. Web sites like "HULU" and "ABC" aren't supported and blocked from streaming online. Charging controllers isn't possible if the console is powered off.
Summary Overall experience with the ps3 console is very good. I don't believe there is a better system for your money. Free online gaming( compared to $50 per user on xbox360)(Great for families with multiple users). The unit may not be as sharp looking as a xbox360 slim but packs a bit more power.
