    "Exceptional Performance for the price"

by SonicEagle on February 10, 2007

Pros: Incredible Handling, Amazing Engine Sounds, Full Leather interior is beautiful

Cons: Engine is loud with the top up

Summary: Ned's comment below is ridiculous. This is not a 911 and doesn't try to be. It's a mid-engine car and is Porsche's revival (revisit) of the classic sypder models. Anyone who has driven both the 911 and the Boxster immediately can feel how differently these cars handle - I've actually had a 911 owner second guess his purchase after driving my Boxster S.

The Boxter S is an exceptional car and is continually recognized by car magazines for its unbelievable handling and its wonderful sounding exhaust note. Driving this car in the slow lane should be a ticketable offense.

The CNET review was incorrect in describing the speaker system; it has 11 speakers with a sub-woofer...the sub-woofer is that speaker right between the two seats almost at ear level. While the speaker system is very good, admittedly not much can be heard over the engine of this car running high RPM's with the top off and windows down.

This car is best (truly mindblowing, actually) when being pushed to it's limits on a quiet back road. I recommend the top down and radio off so that you can completely take in the sounds of this impressive car. Although the new Boxsters are even better looking with the larger air intake, revised interior, if you're so concerned with the Ned's of the world evaluating your bank account, you might hold out for a 911.

In either case, if you like performance driving, whether you get a Boxster, Cayman or 911 you should absolutely get a S model. I'll likely pick up a 911 someday, but do admit to being worried that I'm going to miss much of what makes the Boxter S so special.

Recommendation: Get a Boxter S, a membership to www.pashnit.com's California Motorcycle Roads area and experience the two in the wee hours of the morning...it's too much.

Drove them all. Had a deposit on a '08 911 turbo cab. After driving the Boxster S months later, ordered one. it is that good.
