Pros Does its job, very light

Cons Sometimes doesn't work, some USB ports would have been nice

Summary Laptops aren't exactly laptops anymore. The heat generated is uncomfortable, but many companies have developed notebook pads to come to the answer. The Targus Chill Mat is an inexpensive solution.

The units two fans keep my laptop, which is on for eight hours at a time usually, cool. It is a fairly quiet unit, and it makes it easier to set the laptop on your lap, although it still gets uncomfortable for extended use, normally an hour or more.

The strange problem I have is the connection from the pad itself to the USB cable. Sometimes, I notice lots of heat from my laptop, and see that the fans have stopped working. The problem? The connection to the unit. Unless I plug it in a certain way, it will not work if moved the slightest bit. I do not know if this is a problem only I have seen, or if it is a widespread problem, so I will give it the benefit of the doubt.

The unit is very light, which makes it work well for travelling. My only quirk is the lack of USB ports. Targus sells a more expensive version with additional USB ports, but I didn't want to spend the money. Still, $25 for just two fans seems like it should at least have one or two additional ports.

If you enjoy to sit down with your laptop, or if you keep it on for long periods of time, you will notice a difference. I would recommend this product to anyone who is bothered by their laptop's heat output.

  • "Broke after a month; didn't even work right."

Pros Well, it's cheap, and requires no external power source.

Cons Has barely a finger nail's width between the top of the device and the bottom of your laptop. OK, that may be a exaggeration, but it still doesn't cool properly.
Stopped working after a month; a solder on the power port inside must have broken.

Summary I got a collapsible laptop stand from the DOLLAR STORE that elevates the laptop about 2 inches. Worked much better, and hasn't broke yet.

  • "Avoid Targus completely, rude support, poor products!"
    on by AnthonyFernandes

Pros When it did work, the pro would be it was that it had Dual Fans

Cons The Wire sucks, very easy to break
The product lasted one month for me, and it wasnt because of the AC Cord but rather inside the fans themselves just simply stopped working as I ake good care of my electornics

Summary Overall, I tell you guys DON'T go with them mainly because their product lasted a whole 17 days for me from the purchase date. Although they cover the product via one year warranty I don't even want to waste my time with them simply because its poorly made. The AC adaptar alone is very easy to break and despite me taking good care of this product the fans have simply just stopped working. I will NOT be using them again for electronics.

  • "Didn't work when I got it."

Pros I like the idea and think someone should have a good product at a reasonable price. We all know the laptops get hot on your lap, which isn't good for them and uncomfortable for us.

Cons Didn't work right from the start. Shoddy materials used in it, I guess. Had to send it back and they refunded my money.

Summary I think it's a great idea and wish it would have worked because my lap gets mighty hot, esp in the heat and humidity we're having this summer.
