    "avoid it like the plague"

by diddlyd on November 30, 2005

    Pros: great features

    Cons: terrible design, awful reliability

Summary: I've had this phone over two years now. I bought it for its features, like long range, sound quality, and speakerphones on the handsets. The performance on the handhelds has been fine.

Here are the reasons I came to hate this phone, and highly recommend you avoid it:

1.) Reliability - after about a year, the buttons on both of my two handsets started going bad. They're getting progressively worse. To turn the phone on now, I have to hit the speakerphone button, as the power/flash button is totally dead. The number buttons are getting harder to press as well. Due to the fact that this is happening on both handsets, I'm convinced its the design of the phone. By the way, I use these phones in a very clean, dry environment.

2.) Battery - they've lasted fine for two years, but that's not the problem. The battery sits in the back of the phone in such a poor manner, that they're always falling out with the slightest jolt. Two thin clips hold the battery, and a flimsy cover goes over it. The clips barely hold the battery in place. Before you think about buying this phone, please try inserting the battery and you'll see what I mean. The cover doesnt do much to stop you from pressing on the battery when holding the phone and dislodging it from the clips, disconnecting your current call.

3.) When the battery gets low, the phone is nice enough to let out a deafening beep right in your ear as you talk to let you know. This will make you want to throw it through the window.

My one year warranty ran out before these problems started, so I'm currently stuck with this phone. I imagine the buttons will soon make it 100% worthless, and I'll be forced to buy a new one. If you aren't looking for a phone that will serve you for longer than a year, and don't mind a battery mechanism that will make you curse, then maybe you'll like this phone. Otherwise, avoid it like the plague.
